Still having trouble with snap in staff view

Just venting.

Older versions of Sonar worked just fine in staff view. Spent a few hours creating some tracks for a friend in Sonar 4 . . . . working in X1 now and snap is IGNORING my choices.

X1C

No reply needed. Just venting. Thanks.

It hates me and ignores my specified choice.

I choose snap to 1/16 note . . . and they are drawn wherever I drop my mouse. My snap setting is ignored.
I choose snap to 1/4 note . . . and they are drawn wherever I drop my mouse. My snap setting is ignored.

I choose snap to 1/8 note . . . and they are drawn wherever I drop my mouse. My snap setting is ignored.

    Magnetic strength options changed . . . doesn't help.

Works great in piano roll view.

    Bias against musicians who use . . . . God forbid . . . . music notes!

Check the magnetic strength setting in preferences. I think it's project specific in X1 but at any rate, turn it off.

I know . . . magnetic strength does me no good. Works fine in piano roll.

Is it just me that has this problem?

Won't snap to selected values. What am I doing wrong?  Could someone watch this and let me know?

Spent the day working on tracks for a friend in Sonar 4; lots of MIDI playing, fixing, entering and editing.  Worked PERFECTLY.

Now I'm back at my place and working on X1c and I'm remembering how much snap hates me.

    PS: I understand magnetic strength.

Got a reply from technical support

Snap to Grid was never really fully developed for the Staff View. There are some "snap-like" tendencies that tend to vary, but as you have noticed the behavior is unpredictable in SONAR X1. Snap to Grid is more intended for moving data around in the Track View and the Piano Roll View.

Other users have also reported to us that notes do not "Snap" consistently in the Staff View. We have created official reports regarding this internally, however at this time it is more of a feature request for enhancements moving forwards. In other words, Tech Support does not have any "Fixes" for you as Staff View specific snap behavior would have to be implemented in an update to the application or a new version of the application.

The only recommendation I can make is to consider moving notes in the Piano Roll View. SONAR X1c did introduce "Piano Roll View Specific Snap" settings again, so you can easily use this to snap notes to different intervals. I know its not quite the behavior you are looking for, as it requires working in a different view, but you would be able to move data around easily this way. You can find more details on PRV Specific Snap in X1c at http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013258

Is it just me, or does it seem that the staff view won't be getting attention anytime soon?

It's not just you.  Cakewalk has decided that Sonar is not for serious composers or arrangers.  But if you use loops...

Apparently you didn't notice that my sarcasm mode was set to "true".

Loops?  Even Garage Band has better notation!

What would be the point of putting in a feature request for the staff view - I thought it was common knowledge that the code was not maintainable.

Use any other version of Sonar, before snap was messed up in Staff. So amusing that tech is proudly saying that finally in X1c, PRV got its individual snap setting back--took them almost a year to realize it was a horrible mistake to simplify the program down to one snap setting. RB

I still run into this problem all to often in X2.
Thanks to user "petemus" for the solution which seems to work (see http://forum.cakewalk.com/Is-snapto-fixed-yet-in-X2-Staff-View-m2721466.aspx ).  But, can somebody tell me what is "Snap Toggle Extend" that gets toggled by pressing "n" in the staff view?  How can I tell if it is toggled on or off?

My settings for snap seem to be okay as shown in the first two images below.  But, I still get random values for notes entered on the staff as shown in the last image below.
