Ozone 5 and Sonar X1

Couldn't help myself. Got the $99 upgrade deal and had to go for it. So far(1 day) I am glad i did. Some nice "quick look-move type features for one. Digging in the next few days.
For someone like me-mainly Lead Singer\Lead guitar and songwriter with limited recording skills (well comparted to many or most of you folks anyway) Ozone is great for me.
I'll post back after a few days of digging in.

Looking forward to your review of Ozone5.  I am on the fence.  Ozone 4 works well for me; so I am trying to convince myself that Oz5 will be worth it.

Let us know what you think, and if possible the changes/improvements that you notice from the vs4.

Thanks

Is the advanced version worth it? There's a good price break for upgrade on that too. It looks like the individual modules could then be inserted as effects in each channel strip of X1.

I took the plunge. I really like the increased flexibility of having different numbers of bands in the modules and the mid-side processing. The interface is a lot easier to navigate too, once you get used to it.

I took the plunge @ $149 for the v4 to v5 upgrade price. Then, after numerous complaints about v3 to v5 upgraders getting the same deal, Izotope reduced the v4 to v5 upgrade to $99 and refunded original purchases $50. Now that's a company that listens to it's users and reacts quickly and appropriately!

Unfortunately, due to a severe cold, I can't hear properly out of either ear and so can't enjoy playing with this new mastering tool. But I loved Ozone 4 (except the exciter) so I expect v5 to impress (hey, new exciter code!)

What's different in the more expensive version? I've got all the iZotope software, but in this case wonder what's so radically different to justify a $399 upgrade price. Anyone??

DOh! Could have had a better look around the website and had a demo couldn't I.

The Advanced sounds like real value for money with the many enhanced and individual modules as well as a full suite of meters.

Why not go for it.

Re:Ozone 5 and Sonar X1 November 11, 11 10:12 AM (permalink)
I downloaded and installed the demo last night.  So far I like what I see, but I'm not sure if I want to spend $99 on the upgrade or not.  the "green" is less "green" and a little less eyestrain, I guess.  the bright green didn't ever bother me.

the presets are pretty cool.  I didn't have a lot of time to play with it but what I did sounded really nice.

Mike V - I thought that the Advanced included the Mixing version as well but I could be wrong about that.

also, bitflipper and some others have reviewed it in the software forum.

Re:Ozone 5 and Sonar X1 November 11, 11 11:16 AM (permalink)
I downloaded the Ozone 5 Advanced demo last night.

For the first time I was able to get 'that' sound I was looking for in a mix very quickly, and I did the majority of it by using the presets and the new phase and delay options. Normally when you use presets they never really sound right. I don't know if it was the particular mix I was working on or what, but the song I tried them on nailed the mastering dead on, and upon the 100th listen this morning, I'm still very happy with the master and I'm calling it done.

Some things I noticed compared to Ozone 4:

1. The new meters are amazing. If you have dual monitors you can put them on #2 and make each individual one full screen. There are 4 total.

2. There are more phase and delay options. Honestly, those made the most difference in my master and gave it that final touch I've been looking for. I always knew I was missing a step, but being a weekend warrior I never knew what it was.

3. The EQ is much more transparent and subtle.

4. They made it larger so you can see it better.

5. There are a lot more reverb options than in O4.

6. Being able to put some of the individual effects on tracks is awesome and they use very little resources.

I'm sure there's a lot more I'm missing, but those are the things that struck me initially compared to the Ozone 4 demo and those alone are worth the $599 (for new users) price tag.

Now it's going to suck bigtime until I can afford to spring for this. :( I'll have to rush and try to remaster a bunch of my old projects before the 10 day trial is up. $599 is very steep ... but it is worth every penny in my opinion.

HA. - As a matter of interest, does the demo insert silence at intervals ? (like the O4 demo did)

Yes the demo has that silences, but only after a 10 day trial period... Ozone 5 is offered for $199,- if you are a new user until the first of December. After that it is $249. Unfortunately It is above my budget at this moment in time... sigh...

I just signed onto my iZotope account and was checking the prices on O5 and see an offer to purchase O5 Advanced for $100 off the $399 price. The $100 offer is at the bottom of the O5 purchase page in the "How to Purchase" box. $299 sounds pretty good to me :-) I purchased O4 back in May 2011.

I think the $399 IS the 100 off.  The original price was $599 I think, so I don't know how that calculates -- but I saw a $399 final price for "Advanced" (which I'm personally not interested in yet).

I intend to do the $99 upgrade though.  That's kind of a no-brainer.

I didn't seen anything that was "must-have" or "gotta-have" in the Advanced.

well to me , it is like "alloy" just having the parts as individual elements, NOT all in one. There is a comparision chart of whats in each.

so the CPU load if far less/ use on sep. tracks as well as the master

if it was priced at $199 intro offer , i'd have gone for it , but $99 is do-able

I probably would go for it at $199, but I don't feel it's a great value at $399 or higher.  I have many ways to skin the cat, er mix the track these days -- with other products that give great results as well.

So just spending for the sake of spending doesn't make sense in this case.   99, fine, though - as there does seem to be value for the cost.

I did not see where anyone mentioned that if you bought Ozone 4 within a certain time frame, as I did a few weeks ago, you get the upgrade to Ozone 5 for free. I got an e-mail from them them yesterday and quickly checked my account and there was the serial number for Ozone 5. It is very impressive I must say. The presets make it so easy to get a sound quickly. Good-bye O4!

So I never tried Ozone before, tried 5 and agree with others on this thread, this plug in really is a great master bus tool. The ease of use and the smoothness of EQ or dynamic control is neat.

Too late Beagle - I gave the bag of bacon treats and a hundredweight of Kibbles and bits to Izoptope. Downloaded the demo and within the hour, they had my money. Wowzer - this is a great piece of kit.
