New computer for X1, transfer old version 8 to new computer, then upgrade to X1?

I was running tired old system that would barely keep run Sonar 8.   Didn't bother with 8.5, and definitely needed a new computer before upgrading to X1.

I just built the new computer, but now wondering how to go about the upgrade.  Do I have to transfer Sonar 8 to the new computer, then upgrade to X1?   (Definitely don't plan on paying full, new customer price!)

Or is there a way to do an upgrade, and just do a clean install of X1 to the new machine?

Surely this has been tackled before.  But I've had no luck searching out the answer.

Thanks!

All versions of SONAR are clean and seperate installs not dependent on any other earlier version being installed.
Upgrading has to do with pricing and is only based on what your most recent registered version is.

Sounds good.  So I should be able to get the upgrade price (based on being a registered owner of Sonar 8), and be able to install on a new machine, w/o Sonar 8.   That would be ideal.

I know some software 'upgrades' (not Sonar) have required that the old version be there when doing the upgrade.

    Thanks for the reply!

My tired old AMD XP 1900 based system was locking up so much, I didn't even want to record, because I knew what was coming.   For instance, I love the perfectspace verb, but it would just kill my system.

Just built a new one based on an i5 2500k, and it seems to flyin so far.  Can't wait to get Sonar X1 on to see how she holds up.

You should load Sonar 8... 'cause you will have more plugins (lexicon reverb) available for X1.

Have fun with the new system!

Go ahead and install X1, and if you need plug-ins from S8 just do a custom install of the plugs from that version. If you go 64 bits then all your 32 bit plugs will play through bit bridge. You will have a bit of a learning curve with X1, but once you get the hang of it, you will find that it has a number of enhancements. If you're the Rich that I think you are, then just give me a call if you need any advice. Let us know how it goes.

    All the best,

Hi Lynn.  Yep, its me.  Finally moving off of Sonar 8.  Just built a new computer last night.   Many tasks to get everything moved over.   Stored a lot of stuff on an external USB drive, so that part should be easy.   Copious driver installs, software installs, Wind-Blows Updates, etc.

Looking forward to X1.  With any luck, I'll be downloading it this afternoon.
