Video Issue with Sonar X1

Hi everyone

I am working on a video wall for an upcoming live performance.  I have been using Sonar X1 to add video imagery to my musical set and have been doing this for a couple of months now.  The video has been playing back in sync with my individual tracks with no issues whatsoever.  But suddenly I tried to open the project today and find that only half of the video is showing-- it looks like it has literally been cut in half.  Obviously this is less than ideal.  I have not altered the original video in any way- it's as it was when I last saved the project.  I have tried to change the stretch options and this does nothing to correct the problem.  Any ideas?  Again, everything was displaying properly when last I opened the project but suddenly I find this.  Please help!  It's very difficult to try and create a video wall when you can only see half of it!

Cheers!

I hate to give a reply that sounds so much like the "what's your specs?" stereotype, but it would help to have more info.  Specifically..

    1) is the video playing fine in Sonar but showing weird on your output ?
    2) How are you putting video out to display?
    3) Could it be a display card issue?

    Hi Dubdisciple

I have originally created a montage of images with Windows Movie Maker.  Then I imported the WMV file into Sonar. Then I could watch the video play back as I added tracks so I had an idea of what imagery worked with what music. In Sonar itself I was able to see the full video in video view as the project played.  Now when I try to play the project, in video view the video is literally cut in half.  Trying to increase the window size does nothing-- again it appears only 50% of the video is showing.  I'm not sure what has happened as I have been working with this on and off for about 2 months and have never had this issue-- the full video always displayed before.  When I watch the video in Movie Player, for instance, it plays correctly.  I have tried to load other videos into Sonar and now they all only display "halved".  I have also tried creating new projects and this continues to happen.  All of the music tracks play properly.  Any ideas?  I've tried all of the stretch options in the video view but that does nothing. Something has obviously happened in Sonar but I have no idea what.  I am not aware of changing any settings-- but I suppose I must have?

Admittedly these kinds of problems are hard to troubleshoot  from a distance  but I do have a better idea of the problem now. Are other video formats behaving in the same way?  One possibility could be a change in your computer.  Do you allow windows to update automatically?    A recent windows update (Windows update KB2803821) causes black bands to appear in some video programs.  See if that was one of your recent updates.  If so, remove it , reboot and try.  you can always reinstall the update later.

This was exactly the problem!  I have removed the update and all video playback has returned to normal.  Thanks for that!
