dropouts dropouts

Ok I have had sonar x1 for awhile and it has worked pretty good and I was using some not quite legal plugins, but I decided I didnt want to have them anymnore and restored my computer to its original state erasing all the plugins I couldnt pay for then reinstalled the ones I did manage to buy.I updated all my drivers and I was told it could be anything but I have tried everything in the help file and nothing helps the constant dropouts i get.Anyone had this issue and know how to remedy it?>

    Stephen,
Your posting over the last few days appeared very trollish.  You have several threads (not just the ones I responded in) complaining about the same problems.

I apologize for being short with you, and calling you a troll.

I do not believe the forum is the best method for you to get help.

I again suggest that you contact CakeWalk support by phone.

    Kind regards!

If it worked before, it should work now.  That's the good news.

The bad news is it may take some digging to isolate the problem.

You're missing a couple of vital pieces of info in your sig:  OS - I'm guessing Win7-64 bit...? And name of the sound card.

If you're using onboard sound card, it's not ideal, but you can probably get by with the ASIO4ALL drivers.

If you've got a audio interface, make sure you have the latest drivers.

Also, the following basic tweaks should help:
    - Uninstall anything in startup you don't need.
    - In the BIOS, disable overclocking utilities like C1E and speedstep.
    - Change Power mgmt setting from "Balanced" to High performance.
    - Disable Wireless (at least until you see how it affects performance).

Again, since it worked okay before, it shouldn't be too hard to get it back to acceptable performance.

Let us know how it goes, and good luck!

I don't think I would. All them all complaining, and I don't even know what the troll thing means,I'm sorry I over posted.i will not do that again at least not on the same issue but if I have ten issues I have a right to come here and ask fOr help,if u want to hate on people that's ur business.i would call cakewalk but it's Saturday and it's hard to get thru.i don't know anyone in the music industry,I don't know other sound engineers either,I have no friends so I come here for help, the learning curve is steep.plus for someone in my isolated position it has been so frustrating and many times it seems like hundreds of people have read my post and not one has a suggestion,no maybe they really don't know or maybe they just don't care.other times people are very kind and I always try to let them know how much their help means to me.again sorry no complaining got it,no several posts on same issue got it.

Uninstall means removing them completely.  For this, you go to Control Panel, Programs. select the program(s) you want to remove, then click uninstall at the top of the page.  Follow the prompts (You may have to reboot), and that's it.  These programs are usually stuff that was pre-installed, by HP in your case, or accidentally installed by you or another user -- toolbars being very common.

Another, perhaps preferable, option is to just disable tasks that are starting up (and possibly causing conflicts) on every reboot.  Here's how to disable them in Win7:  Click Start button - In search box, type msconfig, hit Enter key.  This will bring up a window with a Startup tab-click that.  Now you should see all the tasks that start up, with little checked boxes next to them.

Unlike the Installed programs, you likely don't need most of these startup tasks, so can be a bit ruthless in your unchecking boxes.  (This will disable the task so it doesn't start on next reboot).  OK out of this window and reboot.  Depending on how many things you disabled, your system should run faster amd more efficiently now (And hopefully the pops, clicks, dropouts, etc. are gone).

The beauty of this process is that nothing is permanent.  You can always re-check a box if you decide you actualy need the app... or go back and uncheck more things for further cleaning up.

    Good luck.

    Stephen,
I apologized to you but perhaps my post was not taken as an apology.
I just read it again, and see that it could have been taken the wrong way.
It is one of the problems with trying to communicate only with type.

I should have simply said I'm sorry.

I posted the apology in 3 of your threads as I was not certain which of your threads you would return to and wanted to be sure you saw it.
Other than saying I am sorry there is nothing more I can do.

I see JonD has promised to help you resolve your issues.

I hope you get them sorted soon.

    Best wishes!

Have a look at your latency time / ASIO buffer settings and your Playback & Recording buffers. Solid playback is a combination of these settings. Unfortunately there's no one-size-fits-all setting.

See this post for more info on that.

That is a latency issue. There isn't much you can do as it's a computer power & interface thing, how low you can go to minimize the latency before you suffer drop outs - there's always a compromise.

Can you direct monitor from your interface via either the hardware or software side, that eliminates latency completely?
