SteveStrummerUK I like Star Wars. Apart from the first three. Or is that the last three? But I absolutely love the Family Guy versions. Seth MacFarlane admitted that they were using so many references and in-jokes about Star Wars in the regular FG episodes, he was worried about the possibility of legal action for any number of contraventions of various laws. He'd long had plans to do the parody of the 'original' movie (IV - A New Hope), but to be on the safe side, they decided to ask permission from George Lucas/Lucasfilm. Much to his amazement, they agreed and so they went on to make Blue Harvest and the subsequent versions of 'The Empire Strikes Back' (Something Something Something Dark Side)and 'Return Of The Jedi' (It's A Trap). I love the line at the end of It's A Trap (after the 'film' has finished) when Chris asks if they are going to be doing the prequels and Peter says "The Cleveland Show will be doing them". YES Steve - brilliant. But IMO there isn't much in Family Guy that misses the mark. I love the Stewie/Brian episodes too - the one where they get stuck in the bank vault and Brian eats Stewie's poo is genius.

bapu craigb This sounds exactly like the music generation issue we had in that other thread. When the original Star Wars movie came out it was head and shoulders above any science fiction flick that was around in terms of special effects and popular interest (which, if you read my post in that other thread, means the plot had to be a bit simplistic). Taken from that time period, it would be hard to beat. Unfortunately, Lucas buttered that slice of bread for too long and has become more of an example for Backwoods' point of a pop star trying to be relevant after they're old. Sure, there was always a plan for nine movies done as three trilogies, and it's pretty amazing that he was able to actually finish two of the trilogies, but the largest impact would have been if they could have come out much closer to each other timewise. That said, I still know several people that will be buying the 3D set even though they already have the original in 8mm, the full VHS set, the original DVD versions and the remastered DVD's. I'll wait for the flip book version. On it...

I don't know how far we are behind the States in the scheduling Daryl (the latest series we got was the first one made in HD/widescreen) but I've seen every episode they've broadcast at least two or three times We get two episodes every night of the week on BBC3 and they just keep repeating series after series on rotation. Wonderful stuff.

jbow I like Star Wars well enough but it moves a bit slowly. Lucas is no Tolkien, that is for sure. Sorry man, you can't criticize Star Wars for moving too slow and then go on to praise Tolkien in the same regard! LOTR would've been two or three hundred pages long if they'd edited out most of JRRT's acounts of traveling on foot past different types of trees. I mean, it's a fascinating story and all, but hardly a thriller! The Silmarillion is epic, though! Sven

He he - I have those three episodes I mentioned on my HD recorder. When I work out how to shrink the file sizes down to something manageble I'll stick them up on YouTube

daryl1968 may the arse be with you. How's the weather in blighty? I saw the FA cup semi from Wembley and it looked pretty bright Must've been more fun than the torture I endured. Watching Norwich getting beat 6-1 by Man City. At least Ipswich didn't win though, so there was an upside.

They beat Carshalton Athletic 3-2, whoever they are. Do you know Lowestoft? That's a bleak place to be mid-winter, summer's okay especially during the airshow, unless it's raining of course. Mind you anywhere in Norfolk/Suffolk is bleak in the winter.

I've been there once and took in a match there one Saturday afternoon. There was a howling wind and horizontal rain IIRC and the only goal went with the wind direction in favour of the home team. They have a good ground and set-up considering their status in the non-league pyramid, Rymans Premier. Good support too.

Norwich have had a great season though FBB. Delia must be happy. I get to see more live football on TV here than you ever could over there - usually 7 games over the weekend. My real team is Coventry City but they're games don't get televised very often - the Americans don't need to televise a game that puts them to sleep - they have baseball for that :)

I thought the score flattered Man City. The game wasn't anywhere near as one sided as the score line suggests, but it's results that count, and that wasn't a good one. Oh well, at least we're safe now.
