this can also happen if the MIDI EVENTS have a hard code for the CHANNEL. what it does is not actually random, but it will paste X Channels down from the starting point. for example, if you tell it to paste in track 4 and there is hard coded events for that MIDI CHANNEL set at channel 6, then it will paste the MIDI in track 10. sonar will even create track 10 if it doesn't exist.
Good point! I remember this happening to me before I understood what was going on, and it was confusing at first. When trying to paste some midi events in the PRV and nothing apparently happens, it's often a good idea to see if the midi events have been pasted somewhere else. That might give you a clue to what's happening. Sometimes midi events can even end up in audio tracks.
Yes, in the scenerio I described above, it doesn't matter what kind of track #10 is - if it's audio, MIDI or instrument track it will still paste it there.
