Advancing Presets with A800
Hi - I'm struggling to get my head round both Sonar LE and the A800 so will need a lot of hand holding! I seem to be able to scroll through presets for third party VSTis using the pads on the A800 but it doesn't seem to work on the Sonar internal synths or those in the Production Pack - though these have presets they don't appear in the presets box at the top of the VSTi's screen - can anyone help please? Hi,
I've just been playing with this tonight. On my APRO 500 what you need to do is:- using the arrow keys press until the APRO LCD display shows Progam Change then with synth in focus use the Rotary knob next to the display, rotate and you will see the presets changing in your synths GUI. I have only tried this using Zeta+ 2. I guess it should work with the other synths.
I would need to check this but I think the other way of changing presets with plugins ie Sonitus compressor etc is to change the functionality of the rotary knob to Presets < instead of Markers/Jog > then use the arrow keys with shift to scroll through the presets. Like I say I will need to check this.

Thanks for that - I discovered it shortly before your post - it only seems to work with some plugins - eg it doesn't work with Cakewalk Sound Centre. Also I can't seem to get the A800 to change banks on the Z3ta - any ideas? The latest thing I am wrestling with is how to get the keyboard to play two different sounds through a VSTi - I've followed the instructions in the manual but they may only work for an external sound module - I must be missing something? Starting to wish I'd bought a Novation :-(

After typing my post I also discovered that it only works with some Synths too!!!! I tried with Dim Pro and had no joy. hower banking through Plugin presets works as advertised > at least it does with the sonitus one I tried.
Yesterday I tried playing two sound using the upper/lower method, not that I ndeed too I just thought since I had the manual out I would give it a go, I couldn't get that to work either! I may contact Roland for clarification as I have another niggle I would like to talk about too with regard the B button functionality since X1d. I find I can't control the pro channel using the B4 button like I used to. Can you?

Can you get the banks to change in Z3ta as I cant? I've noticed also that the sound engine turns off if you turn the Value knob too quickly - took me a while to work out why the sound had stopped!
Hope you get an answer on the dual/split thing - I'm worried now it may only work with sound modules not VSTis - must admit I have bee really frustrated so far - thought it would integrate seamlessly with Sonar LE as it came with it and from the same company! As I have only got LE (and still finding my way around it) I don't know iff I have the pro channel!
Thanks for the help so far - keep me posted - going away for a fortnight tomorrow but will catch up when I am back!

Hey Joe :-)
I'll take look at Z3ta for you and get back to you. I can't see this being an APO problem more and ACT issue, so I don't believe the notation would have made a difference.
WRT to the Pro Channel, no you don't have it with LE.
I'm going to keep playing with the split/lower/upper issue, I might fire the question into the main x1 forum as there is more footfall there, so to speak.

Hi Joe, Hope you had a good trip, I discussed this in the main X1 forum and found the answer to she upper/lower/split/ dual issue. Follow this thread and it answers the issue..... Basically you have to specify the midi channel first then sound and use a multi timbral synth http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2564725 I now have it working as advertised using TTS-1 and also with Garritan Personal Orchestra - both multi timbral. Also, yes z3ta will follow program changes from the APRO, as will TTS-1, Psyn and Pentagon..... These are the Synths I have tried so far. HTH

Thanks for that - I will experiment as soon as I get the chance - probably be next week as I'm away again at the weekend - I'll try with Sample Tank Free as that is multi timbral - be nice if they had mentioned it in the manual as said elsewhere! Re the bank change on z3ta how did you get that to work as I couldn't?

Thanks again - got Sample Tank to work with the dual / split - only after I realised it didn't work when it was inserted as a First Synth Audio Output and only as a Simple Synth track. I seem to have a problem generally that I keep losing sound when playing - the midi is going in but nothing comes out for a bit - click around and it comes back - must be something I am doing wrong I haven't worked out yet!

Hi Joe,
Wrt the change on Z3TA are you referring to bank change or program change? If you mean program change then it works just the same as all the others > use the arrows to select program change in the APRO LCD display > Use the rotary knob to change programs.
WRT Banks I havent tried that. Sorry. I'm going away today so won't get chance to look at that til next week.
I hope the other advancing Presets is working for you now, and he split keyboard thing.
