Wookiee Bristol_Jonesey What concerns me is why a 600W Corsair PSU should die after being used for what, 2 months? 600W for that spec PC is quite low IMO. Do you use a separate PSU for your Saffire? Gotta agree with The Wookiee there Colin. Maybe request a 1000W replacement?

During testing, they were getting a memory error and have had to swap out one of the RAM dimms, so no machine back yet. Hopefully tomorrow, or I'll be slumming it on my secondary system

Sucks, but it's better that they found the secondary issue now instead of having you find it and have to do the return all over again! ~ Captain Obvious

Yes indeed Craig. Their concern - which is spot on - is why yet another dimm should fail in such a short period of time (I had to replace one at the very outset), so they're checking there's nothing weird going on with mobo voltages Also, as a precaution, they're backing up all three hdd's so that if there's anything not quite right when I get the machine back, nothing will be lost.

It's back! Currently sat in my wife's office waiting to be brought home. They have done a complete RAM swap as well as the PSU! Hopefully that'll be then end of my (current) HW problems

Well, just a quick update. I hooked it all back up last night and everything seems ok. Haven't had chance to test everything out yet, but so far so good. Fingers crossed

Good to hear Jonesey! Fingers crossed here as well (makes it difficult to type but IMO it's worth it). Just don't worry about things going wrong. Computers seems to have a sixth sense for when their owner worry about something that may go wrong and then they WILL break - the little bastards - so I say just go a long and happily use it for what you want. The hardest thing to get back is the 100% trust between man and machine so why not just jump straight in and be the better man Glad to hear you're up and running again buddy! Have fun and good luck!

I know I'm like way, way late to the party here, and I'm very glad to hear you had a good experience with the vendor. Always nice to know who will stand by their stuff - I looked through the thread and didn't see, though. Who did you buy from? Also, 600W is borderline overkill for the system in your signature. PSUs tend to have their best efficiency at around 50% load. Your i7 3930 is a 130W six-core CPU, and unless you have a very fast gaming-grade video card, I doubt you're pulling more than 300W or so at the wall under a full load, even with 3 hard drives. Tech Report measured around 200W full system consumption under a heavy CPU load for the top-end 3960X. that's with an idle video card, but unless you have a GeForce 580 or a Radeon 7900 series, I wouldn't worry too much about the capacity. And Corsair makes great PSUs. I have a 450W in my custom 2500K system. Sometimes you just get a dud. Which brings me back to the good service you got, glad to hear all is well. :)

I bought the system from Carillon UK. They built my original machine back in 2003 and I had no hesitation in getting them to build the new one. Interestingly, the PSU they've now installed is a 500W Corsair Thanks for the info and the techreport link.

Well I've had a quick test of it, everything seems ok, the full 32Gb of RAM is being reported, my fully loaded orchestral template loads fine and so does BFD2 Time to do a backup or 3, burn a system image and set a restore point methinks
