IMHO, Amplitube, Guitar Rig, Waves GTR, POD Farm and most others are interchangeable. The only one that's in a category of its own is S-Gear. I have most of them and I use each of them for different things. Usually, it's trial and error until you get what you're after.
The other day I re-opened a project I hadn't worked on since January. The guitars were laid across 3 tracks and I was surprised to hear how good and cohesive they sounded, so I switched to the mixer view and saw that I had used a different amp sim on each track - GR 5, Amplitube and S-Gear.
Amp sims are like drums - you can't have too many. ;)
Well Rain.....this is good to know.....I did not know about S-Gear.....I will have to look into them.....it's good to know about Amp 3 as well....I will give this some "Serious" consideration cause right now that sale gives you every thing plus the kitchen sink! :-) Drums...ohhh....you know I was happy just having SD2 and now our ol pal and you are swaying me into thinking G.A.S. may not be as bad as people say it is! :-) Thanks for the info Clifford

If I could kibitz here... Two things to consider: 1] Do you need a large number of amp/stomp options for your work, including bass amps and esoteric pedals in order to cover a lot of musical bases. or 2] Do you just need a single rig capable of great clean, overdrive, crunch, and metal tones. If option one...go with Amp3. If option 2 go with S-Gear. The way I look at my rig is that Amp3 (and GTR3 and GR5) gives me a diverse tonal pallette and the "equipment" I need to produce almost any guitar/amp/stomp sound I need for a given project. While S-Gear is the software equivalent of my own "personal" rig that I use day in and day out. If you're just looking for a great rig with great tone...it's S-Gear no questions about it. But if you need "diversity" it's Amp3. HTH.

Kibitz all you wish.... it's good to hear But you know .......I was thinking the very same thing here.......I really liked the S-Gear sound....really did..... I checked out several You Tube videos of Amplitube 3 and really was not all that impressed.....the same sounds in Amplitube I can get in Guitar Rig so I'm not seeing the up side to wanting this package.....yeah sure it's a lot of gear.....really is but so is Guitar Rig...... But I'm thinking that I only really need what S-Gear is giving here and the price is a bit less and there really are a lot less choices which simplifies things......but it sounds so good....plus if I really and truly want to I could always add on impulse files for a bit more...... I think that this for me just may be the way to go......I do not need the alll that gear..... OK I think that this is my decision.......S-Gear! Thanks for the advice! Clifford

Good to know, thank you However I left off the fact that Guitar Rig for me came with Komplete 8 so I think I have everything Pro is offering......and even if I do not....right now in Guitar Rig I have more choices that I can shake a stick at so I think your ol Pal raises some very valid points and it seems that the S-Gear is the way I think I would like to go for now...... Between that and Rig 5 and POD Farm 2 I am covered.... But again...Thanks for the information and advice.....it is appreciated. Clifford

Yoropal has nailed this and got it dead on; his advice about choosing is excellent. Amp3 is great for its diversity--something for everything and everyone--the big pallette. S-Gear is unbelievably realistic and really a cut above all other amp sims for blues, overdriven, fushion; it is like having a boutequette hand wired amp in your studio but it in a vst plugin. For me, S-Gear is my "go to" amp sim (because of its tonal quality and realism and because I tend to lean toward blues, fushion, overdriven tones); however, Amp3 is there when I need other tones, particularly the Fender tones (which Amp3 does very well and does Jazz great) and for some heavily distorted, nasty metal rigs, and also is excellent for Bass (Ampeg) tones. I have tried all of the amp sims out there and these two (Amp3 and S-Gear) are the two I come back to again and again; they are the ones I use. I suspect you will buy one now (pick one based upon the criteria yoropal gave--good advice) and then you can (will) grab the other as soon as you get the funds and/or it goes on sale. You will want and probably use both for sure.

I 100% agree with you....I learn a lot from guys on this board like ol pal and bit and danzi etc....and I appreciate their advice....encouragement and trials and errors..... I agree with what your saying as well.....I just do not know when Ampli 3 will be around again for $99....cause I was thinking of getting that first and then s-gear.......but I am not really that impressed with Ampli 3........but I could see S-Gear being the go to amp.....very easy......... :-) Thanks for your thoughts here Clifford

Glad to read that you like S-Gear so much. It really is a gem, and OlPal is right in his analogy.
I've spent (and still do) an awful lot of time messing w/ amp sims, a/b' ing and mixing and matching. And I still use all of them on and off, but more and more, I'm turning to S-Gear and trying to get back to a "more is less" approach. I used to do my best to try and conjure every possible type of tones out a little Marshall when I started recording, and I feel this approach often works best for me.
The endless possibilities in more extensive collections like AT3 seem to sometimes get in the way when I'm recording. There's just no limit to the experimentation.
The other thing I dig about S-Gear is that it's darn hard to make it sound bad. In other amp sims, there seems to be a relatively narrow sweet spot for each model - where they actually sounds like the modeled amp - but when you start tweaking, things just fall apart. It's almost as if their models are static snapshots.
Unlike these, S-Gear behaves like a real amp. If you push the hi or cut the bass or exaggerate the mid, it will sound like an amp would under similar circumstances. Others tend to just fall apart.

Yes fxpansion no longer support vista or xp. In some cases people have been able to install BFD2 & Eco in vista 64bit and others not. Yours would seem to be the latter. I'm sure the 32bit version will work just as well though. I've always thought the only real advantage of 64 bit over 32 bit was for VSTi's that required large amounts of RAM anyway so 32bit shouldn't be a problem. I know a lot of people want to be completely 64bit and it does simplify things but is only necessary for troublesome plug ins that aren't bitbridge friendly Steve

Got it work and appears as a native X64... just copied the 64bit .dll from windows 7 laptop to vista (with the 32bit version installed)
Got slight popping... but that may be system related..
