James_S Ryan Munnis [Cakewalk ] Hi Everyone, I'm not personally qualified to deal with addressing marketing & sales strategies/promotions etc. (we've had some killer deals the past few months that had some very specific guidelines about when they started and ended so customers could determine whether or not they felt they were worth taking advantage of). What I can reply to, however, are concerns regarding obtaining downloads and serial numbers when X2 is available. People who are owed a copy of SONAR X2 will fall into two different categories: - Those who purchased X1 during the last promotion and are eligible for a free upgrade to X2. If you purchased this deal, you essentially got a promotional price and saved a little cash as you fell into the older upgrade structure. You also got a copy of SONAR X1 to use until X2 is released. We're not going to charge you extra to get X2. It's free for you. The day X2 is available to the general public we will send everyone instructions on how to go about it. Essentially you will be "purchasing" it for zero dollars which will generate serial numbers and download links to your Cakewalk store account.
- Those who purchase X2 during this new pre-sale promotion. The added incentive is that by taking advantage of this new pre-sale offer you will be getting X2 a day earlier then everyone else. X2 Producer owners will also get the DSF Symphonic Strings library now. Serial numbers are already being generated for SONAR X2 for "pre-sale purchases". This allows us to flip a switch to activate your downloads without you having to go through any more "purchasing" steps. When SONAR X2 is ready, the downloads will show up and we will notify qualified individuals that they are ready to go.
One other thing I would like to make clear: If you purchased SONAR X1 Producer or Production Suite during the last promotion, when SONAR X2 Producer is available you will be receiving a free download to SONAR X2 Producer. Technically, this also qualifies you for this promotion, so you will also get the DSF Symphonic Strings HD expansion pack in your Cakewalk account. Anyone in this category will receive their downloads to this DSF pack as soon as they register SONAR X2 to their Cakewalk account on or after launch day. I hope this helps clear up any confusion for you folks. Best regards, Ryan Munnis Product Support Manager Cakewalk, Inc. www.cakewalk.com | www.cakewalk.com/support Hi Ryan, Thanks very much for clearing this up - it all makes sense now. Cheers James Yes Ryan, I didn't even want the DSF download, I just wanted to buy Media to have... But getting the DSF download is a bonus... But I guess I'll have to wait to buy media... Cheers!

CakeMaker cclarry, I think everyone is getting what they ordered. Your deal was buy now and get X2 free. You are getting that. The pre-sale thingey going on now is a different promo. These pre-sale folks are getting their SN and a pack of strings. I don't see anything wrong with that. You are getting the deal you signed up for, which is X1 and X2 free. The fact that it was a few days back doesn't mean that you get BOTH deals. Calling it a travesty of fairness is a little much. They are two separate promotions. You got one, and now this is a different one going on now. You will get it when it becomes available. These pre-sale folks are buying into a different deal, their deal is that it's available for them now, but not everyone else. Realistically -you got the better deal. You got two programs for the price of 1. Just my 2cents I agree with this.. My point wasn't that I was treaty unfairly in what I purchased if you read my post. It was in the Marketing implementation, whcih Ryan has since clarified. I was completely content with my upgrade and what I purchased. I just wanted to buy media to go with it, which I can't do until it is released, which I didn't know until Ryan responded.

@James... Exactly. You have gotten to use all those versions. I'm still just poking X1 with sticks and grunting. I'm still snagging X2 and reasonably happy about it. Just sayin' the folks who did the end of life promotion are getting an insane deal at this point.

Please forgive poor formatting (on my phone). The X1 Production Suite "upgrade" is no longer available... but the promotion I linked wasn't specific to "upgrades" to X1... just X1 purchases in general. You can still purchase X1 Production Suite but it would be as a new customer. I think that is what I was trying to get at by explaining X1 Production Suite registrations would still be eligible for X2 customers. I'm not at my desk and at a good place to really dig into the promo specifics, but the promotion and X1 upgrade pricing and paths seemed to me to be unique and not connected. In other words, upgrade pricing might have changed while the promotion still got you a free copy of X2. All I can suggest into weigh the different options. Many of the accounts I've looked at also received free "first class" upgrades from the promotion even BEFORE these two. In any case, as far as I'm aware X1 upgrades are no longer being sold direct. If you're looking to upgrade, you'd be looking to the X2 upgrade paths and pricing.

I get that you are not where you can look at the original webpage (though it's clearly visible in Google cache) but it absolutely, 100%, stated on the specific Production Suite Upgrade page that the offer runs through the 31st of October. I also get that someone either screwed up putting that statement up in the first place or in taking it down prematurely but none the less someone at CW made a mistake. I completely believe that it was unintentional and not meant to mislead anyone but that doesn't help those of us that were relying on its accuracy. chrisby If it helps - http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:JtdUQSGqI_sJ:www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/ProductInfo.aspx%3Fproductid%3D10-CXPS1.00-20E+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us Basically if you went to that page you would think you had until Oct31 to do the upgrade from X1 Producer or Expanded to the Production Suite but you can't because only CW sold that. Right, and that is still true. If you buy SONAR X1 Production Suite, you will get a free upgrade to SONAR X2. We are no longer carrying it though. Other retailers will stop carrying it soon as well when they start stocking SONAR X2. If you happen to walk into a store that has Production Suite, you'll be able to get a free upgrade. That disclaimer in the link above is to make customers aware they are entitled to a free upgrade. We have discontinued selling older versions of SONAR, when a new one is available for sale. That will always be the case.

Yeah, my point exactly... 'If you happen to walk into a store that has Production Suite, you'll be able to get a free upgrade." there are no stores that sell the Production Suite Upgrade from Producer. You could only buy that from the CW store. If that's not correct please let us know which ones do and I'm sure we'll all be happy.... The Cakewalk Store is no longer selling SONAR X1 upgrades, including Production Suite. SONAR X1 Production Suite upgrade are no longer available. I don't believe it is available retail either. I hope you understand that once we start selling a new version, we discontinue the old. This is pretty standard practice. If you have any more questions, please PM me.

Disappointed. My cunning plan to get X2 for a few quid less AND acquire Z3ta+2 has failed, darn it. However I have to admit that X2 for £79 and free strings expansion pack is still a flippin' good deal . . . that button will still be pushed.

I'd talk to cakewalk directly. The only way to upgrade to X1 production Suite was via the Cakewalk Store. in this store, for this very item "Sonar X1 Production Suite (Upgrade)", it was stated that this offer for this very item is valid until the end of october. They can't make an offer, and the delete it from the store, claiming that the offer is still valid, but not for the upgrade, but only for the full version, or, the offer for the upgrade is still valid, but there won't be anyone to buy it from. clearly an unfortunate mistake by cakewalk, but it was THEIR mistake, not yours, and they should show responsibility for their actions, no matter how generous they were before, or are now, with all their other promotions. Contact Cakewalk. This was a bloody good deal, getting X1 Production Suite, the PC4k Gate/Expander, Z3ta+2, X2 Producer and the DSF Symphonic Strings for only 80€ when upgrading to X1 Production Suite, the offer for it - the upgrade - valid until the end of october. It was Cakewalks offer, I accepted, and Cakewalk can't put that offer down when they announced it valid until the end of october. THEIR fault, not your's. The misleading seems obvious to me, you deserve an excuse at least, no more explanations. There even WON'T BE any more explanations, along with no excuse, as Andrew said his last post will be his last reply on this topic, so I definately would contact Cakewalk directly. Good luck.
