X2 Installation Notes

Well I installed X2 today and a few things worth mentioning (Upgrading from X1 to X2) to help others or if you have not yet started your installs. I decided to put all in one post, to reduce all of the searching etc. Hopefully others will add to this list. Cuz these few thing could have helped me a lot and reduced some frustration.

1) Sonar X2
  • If you used IE to download or could not rn the install packages, make sure each file has the ".exe" File extentions. If not then add to each file that has an 01,02,03,04 or 05 prefix in the name. Then retry to install.
  • When you execute the install package, it will take a bit to create the bin file before it starts to execute. In my case it took 25 minutes. DO NOT Walk away from your machine!! You will have a limited amount of time to approve the user account control prompt.  If you are not there in time, you have to start over and wait for the bin file to be ready again (in my case, another 25 minutes).
2) Dimension Pro 1.5
  • If you already have Dimension Pro 1.5 you don't need to install it again.

3) Symphony Strings
  • Extract the files and then go to that location and execute the setup file. Wasn't obvious to me the first 3 times.
  • Once you think you have installed it, open Dimension Pro and look in the sound selection menu for Symphony Strings , if you don't see it click F5 and it should be there. Took me a couple of times to get it right.
4) Demo songs
  • A Cakewalk Projects folder will be created on your root of C: drive. You can find the demo song there.
5) Using the first time
  • Would be good to watch the webinar of what is differences in this version. I know, sounds like a no brainer, but you will see things that are not as the appear at first glance. As i did.
6) PKCompressor, PKGate and Concrete Limiter.
  • Not sure what verion they are, Don't know if they are different from my current versions which I got when I purchased X1 in December 2011 (9 months ago). So I am thinking there is not differrence. So I am not going to install each twice (32 & 64 bit).

Thanks, I added .exe to the 4 X2 files but not to the others, perhaps that is my problem. I am tempted to delet it all and download it all again with Chrome... what a bunch of IE BS...

Thanks for the help. I REALLY needed to get upset before bedtime... I really did.

And what about RAPTURE 1.22 ? Cakewalk send us new serial number and registration code, but is it the same version already existing in Sonar X1 ? Have we to ignore it as it is the case with Dimension Pro ???

    Thanks

There has been nothing posted regarding the need to install Rapture. It would be handy if CW staff would let us know what release and file version is being installed, if the programs have changed and if the expansions packs are applied.

Thanks for posting your tips, TraceyStudios. What happens between part1, and part2 etc.? Will the installer ask for next 'part' the way it would ask for next disk?

Yes it will tell you that you need to run the next file, and then after the final one it will start to install. It is important when you run the final program that you right click and run as administrator. You might get an error if you don't.

the installer unpacks the 4 parts as follows
    02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part1:
    Setup-1.bin,
    Setup-2.bin,
    Setup-3.bin,
    Setup-4.bin,

    02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part2 Setup-5.bin,
    Setup-6.bin,
    Setup-7.bin,
    02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part3:
    Setup-8.bin
    Content\Perfect Space
    Content\RXP

    02_SONAR_X2_Producer.part4
    Setup.exe,
    Setup-9.bin,
    Setup-10.bin,

you then just double click the Setup.exe and that's it apart form answering name and serial number questions and wher you want plugins to go etc

There's a couple of threads on x2 installation. The key install questions Cakewalk needs to answer for myself and other x1 upgraders is: 1. Is it best to install x2 over x1 or as a separate install? 2. If installed over x1 can we skip the Dimension Pro download and install? How about the additional content? 3. If installed separately, it's a waste of space to have both versions. Any complications if we uninstall x1 afterwards?

    1) X2 is a separate install. It does not install over X1.
    2) Yes X2 DimPro is the same as the one in X1
    3) Additional content is always optional
    4) The worst that can happen by removing X1 after X2 is installed is you might have to reinstall some effects using the X2 advanced install. X1 itself does not take up much space. Most of the space is consumed by Beatscape (a separate install) and the Cakewalk Content directories.

highly unfortunate. Ideally, I want x2 to use the x1 settings and configuration and reinstalling effects and other 3rd party software is a pain, especially considering how long the installation process is anyway.

I am not sure why you would think that 3rd party stuff would be affected. It might take a couple of minutes to run the X2 advanced install to select the effects you might need to reinstall (if any). It is not that big a deal, at least I don't see it as one.

X1 Producer Extended features are included X2 Producer. If you bought the Production Suite, you may want to install the PC expander/gate module and the z3ta+2 synth. Those are separate installs that will not be affected by whatever you choose to do with X1.

Iv'e only skimmed the posts, and the OP's suggestions seem good,BUT-WOW This has been SO Much Easier than I EVER would have believed!

Firstly I use Chrome exclusively,as the downloading info while your downloading multiple files is very good SO,I just dwnldd the FIRST 2 info files,ALL the X2 .exe's[4 of them] + additional content,NO loops/one shots yet,SO the FIRST 6 files in your account download area, and number 12-additional content.

This all got done in about 2hrs,then I just opened the FIRST.exe[X2 .exe-not the info/PDF]and everything unpacked,I had already written my serials/Reg no.s last week, and presto, all my plugins, third party synths Everything, was just too easy.

The only mods,I have done is copy my X1 pro channel presets into X2's,as well as project templates, and some FX chain presets, and obviously I didn't copy the ones that are already in X2.

First impression is WOW,all my hassles of pro channel/fx chain presets opening to the wrong page....FIXED,yay!,and within minutes of the unpack,I was inserting Breverb/R-Mix,and playing projects back just as I would have yesterday,WITHOUT having to re-install ANY Pro Channel modules,or any plugins...simply amazing, excellent job Cakewalk,Easily the best most seamless install of ANYTHING Iv'e EVER HAD!

Thank you Cakewalk,X2 seems really astoundingly cool already!

Thanks, I added .exe to the 4 X2 files but not to the others, perhaps that is my problem. I am tempted to delet it all and download it all again with Chrome... what a bunch of IE BS...

Thanks for the help. I REALLY needed to get upset before bedtime... I really did.

    Thanks again..

Quite an over-reaction.. The LAST thing this is is IE b.s.

The first file from this unknown mirror server (01_read_this_first) does not have a verified publisher certificate and hence the firewall prevents IE from downloading an executable program to protect your pc.

It took all of 1min to rename the several files in the download section from filename[1] to filename.exe
