VS-700 system now working with Windows 8 using hacked INF file

Using info acquired here, I was able to get my VS-700 console & I/O module working in Windows 8 this past weekend. The drivers initially complained that the installation had an error but they still seem to be working OK. I also had issues with the Fantom generating errors, but re-installing the most recent update for the Fantom editor fixed that as well. Everything now seems to be working as it did in Windows 7.

Let me know if you have any questions/issues.

Obviously there are some variables at play there. Can you copy exactly what you changed in the file?

Indeed impressive! Posting that INF file here might be a great resource for others.

Do you want to give the VS700.dll a try next and hack some of our problems out of that dll?

BTW, does anybody know if there is a VS700.ini file that goes with that VS700.dll? I know you can use one for the MackieControl.dll to customize some settings for the Mackie surface, but features like that are unfortunately not documented ...

Sorry folks but I can't post the .INF file here, since that would most likely be a violation of Cakewalk/Rolands user agreement. Besides, simply having the .INF file will not get you going on its own. Anyone attempting to do what I did should read the entire linked article and decide if it is something that they feel comfortable doing. The actual modification to .INF file is very minor and is clearly spelled out in the article. For people running a 64-bit OS, there is also a step of disabling driver signing enforcement which is explained as well. Luckily, you only need to disable driver signing during the installation. After the drivers are installed, they still work fine with it enabled again.

Thanks for the info and link! I did the same to my VS-20 .inf and got it up and running in my 64bit W8 really easily!

    Great stuff...

Been thinking about hacking away to get the 700C working properly too...finding enough time to persevere is the challenge so well done Blue, you overcame!

    Cheers.

I guess this is good because as of Nov 1, 2012, the official Roland site list working drivers or plans for virtually all of their interfaces does not include the V-studio 700 for win 8.  Since I am in the process of  moving to a Mac/Pro Tools approach, I no longer care.

This is not entirely true. As of today (Nov 4, 2012) there are win 8 drivers for Octa-Capture but non yet for VS-100, VS-20 or VS-700. With VS-100 and VS-20 definitely still being supported I still got my hopes up also for the VS-700, especially since Roland just fixed the VS EXPAND issues between the OctaCapture and VS-* interfaces (which they never admitted/documented they had) ...

I reckon it takes a lot of testing to get drivers for a new OS, and who wants a buggy beta out early ... well, I don't ...
