LOL Craig it took me a while but I had the vs 880, the 1680, the 2480 and guess what every single one came with the same fate. I like your optimism though and I hope you're the one laughing and saying "SEEEEE" lol

Roland released a long list of audio/midi drivers for Windows 8 (32bit and 64 bit) for many of their products today. However no new drives for any of the VS Series products. Good news if you own a Roland Octa or UA audio device.

if available means still being sold then it the answer is no ... at least in Europe. the biggest central European music store stopped selling it sometime last spring. my system was actually the last one sold here in Austria, which was a display unit that i got in May for a real good discount. hence, i'm not complaining too badly about some features not being functional ... but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want it to be fixed ...

dahjah, I owned the 880, 1680 & 2480 too, and they all had basically solid OS. So I don't see what your talking about when you say they all came with the same fate.

Your pessimism is quite depressing.

Luckily i listen to roland reps instead of spectators, otheriwise I might feel as pessimistic as you do, but I don't. I spoke to a Roland rep yesterday, and he said the VS 700,20,100 Windows 8 drivers are on the way. Cakewalk rep said they're working on fixing all the bugs they can indentify, so for me personally I see progress in  trying to get things resolved.

I was sayin' that they were all discontinued and support stopped. And by looking at the history of Roland if this is discontinued then... Believe me I hope I'm wrong but I haven't seen this leopard change its spots.

I agree with Craig and kday - this forum could definitely use some optimism!

Cake has done a great job putting together a nice piece of software that's pretty stable (since X1c), got loads of cool features and is very intuitive to use. They probably re-developed most of the DAW for X1, which is a dangerous thing to do with an established software and a large user base. I once went down with a company that did likewise, but never got out of troubles following the release of the 'new' product ...

I was reluctant to go for X2, expecting similar troubles and update frequency as with X1, but it's been good from day one. In terms of control surfaces they yet have to do their homework, and I keep my fingers crossed that they will do it. Apparently no CS works any better with Sonar than the VS700 (MCU has also a long list of similar problems), and according to posts in this forum no other DAW (except evil PT) has decent CS support, so providing that will give Cake another advantage over the competition ... If usability is key, X2 is spot on. Decent CS support will add to that and I think it'll come ...

I came in late into the VS-700, don't regret it and still believe in it. There aren't many options anyway, between toy gadgets and priceless zillion dollar digital mixing desks ...

Yeah I think Cake is sincere with their will to get the 700c back to normal.

I had a run through the vs700c online help (F1 when the editor is in focus) and going through/testing all the functions described in this, DAMN this is a hell of a controller! Really! Even with X2!

Once the snap setting and new prochannel/ACT setting are sorted out, I'll be happy to use this thing for a long time!  I don't mind the display delay since it's not at all a problem for me.  Would also really like some feature request implemented when possible.

seriously Craig you don't understand what I mean with the vs700c online help? this online help show all the features and shortcut the console can do. you have to press F1 when the I/O editor (command+i/o) is in focus.

lot of stuff there and a great way to remember what this board still can do.
At least it helped me to see that the vs-C still do a lot of things.

Good post Dyo... I will go there also to get back some of the optimism about the fate of the 700 that I've been missing since it became a clunker since X1.

Fingers most definitely crossed.

Cheers!

PS: had a chuckle tonight at one of Anniedog's comments in the X2 threads including a chuckle at one of Seth's comments about the 'full' integration under X1. Forgotten about that thread....Fun stuff...

Ref: "The control surface also fully works with X1, including the ProChannel, etc." am I missing something? tried doing EQ lately... haha.
