Thanks Mike.....yeah, I'm aware of it. When I changed site hosting, it altered that link. When I try to go into my forum options and change it on this site, the forum software keeps telling me I'm over 500 characters in my signature and won't let me do anything at all. I can't even erase anything or enable "auto subscribe" to any posts. I have to manually do it with each post. Even enabling that check box for subscriptions gives me a "you are over 500 characters" message. I've tried to alter it with various browsers, but it just won't let me....so I just gave up and left it alone. Thanks for the heads up. It's just a link to my forum which is My Forum -Danny

I used to get that over 500 thingy too. What you have to do is go into your control panel/signature and comments. Than put your cursor at the beginning right before "My Site" and hold down the delete key till it's all gone. Then start fresh. Each time you alter your sig there are bits and pieces of your old sig still hiding in the background. Like the font commands, color, bold, italics, underline, size. For me I tried listing my old Mackie Onyx 1640 but the comma was over the edge. I counted and came up with 42 characters?????? One day I heard a little snapping sound sort of like a pencil breaking and wiped the whole thing clean and gave up. When I calmed down a little, I PM'd someone at Cake and was told about the hidden remnants. Since I deleted from the beginning, all remnants deleted too. Presto a full 500 - 550, whatever it is was available once again. So it's a good idea that if and when you change up sig's to wipe it all out and start fresh. Don't just delete a line or two and add new info. As I was typing this long winded off topic thread it occured to me that all you sig items are links. As you know, links can be rather lengthy not to mention the hidden code Cake adds when you use the insert link command. Strong possibility that you have exceeded the limit. Try maybe cutting it down to My Site, My Services and My Truth. Just a suggestion. As an un-offendable Jersey-ite you can tell me to blow it out my clam-hole too. Mike

yorolpal Another reason I NEVER use my debit card for net purchases...not that it can't happen in a brick and mortar too. As this comment implies you have ways to use the debit card I've never known of, I'm curious: The only way (up here) I know to use the debit card for net purchases is being linked from the shop site to my banks web site, where I use the passwords and changing codes that I normally use doing bank business. I've never heard of any misuses in that procedure. To steal money from my account the criminal should know my password and two codes that are only in my wallet. Or is there a way of using debit card that I don't know of, there on the other side of the pond? I can't imagine how a debit card can be hacked, unless you use it on a fake bank site or a spyware is involved. Even then it would be a one time theft, you couldn't repeat it. Credit cards are much, much more vulnerable, IMO.

is there a way of using debit card that I don't know of I think so Kalle. Over here our Debit/Bank Card is, and can be used exactly as a Credit Card. Pretty much the only difference is that on a bank card the money gets taken directly from our checking account. No credit = no interest. It can also be used at ATM machines. Credit cards can too but once again there's a fee and interest charges. Mike

Since, after being wiped out, I've decided for now to not use credit at all, I've set up a separate bank account with a debit card attached that I use as I would a credit card. Except, instead of paying back some bank with interest, I simply pay myself. This allows me to keep the balance nice and low (I also make sure I DON'T have overdraft protection on this account - if it goes over, either I really screwed up or someone is trying to use the card illegally). So far I've been able to do everything I used to with this card. For most online stuff, I use PayPal.

Interesting, my banker suggested I used my CREDIT card instead of my Debit card, since the CC will still be protected by a dispute and unlike the debit card, wont wipe out my available funds in my account..

Having a debit card that automatically takes money from a linked account is stupid and no more safe than a credit card. Here in Australia I have a debit card but it has a zero balance. I have to physically go into my netbank and transfer the money from an account to the debit card and this is instant of course. Then I use the debit card to make the transaction and there might be a dollar or two left over after. Anyone hacking in can only get to the money on the debit card and if there is very little or none there they cannot get any more than that. That is the way it should work. Maybe if you ask your bank it might be an option.

If I ever had my little balance wiped out, it would be far less than it costs to have a credit card (though I'm sure every banker would prefer you to have a credit card of course!).

These look better: http://www.idstronghold.com/ Crap... better get something to put the cellphone in too. According to what I read, people who know how can remotely activate the microphone on your cell and listen to private face-to-face conversations... not that they would want to listen to me but they might to you... and "they" can tell exactly where you are by using cellphone towers, I don't like that. It probably will never matter to me but I still don't like it. Pretty soon I will need a tinfoil hat and tinfoil underwear... J

What Jeff said is what I said on page 1, use a debit card and at most times keep a balance of just $1. Simply top it up to cover purchase and use it ASAP! Yeah that's right thugs; I have a poor debit card LOL!! Julien, Cool! I'm going to get one of those security card holders. Danny Sorry to hear about your past troubles; good idea to put iron bars on the windows and exit doors. And I hope you have a secure garage for your car. When I lived in Sydney, Australia my car got hammered (roof, doors and bonnets) by a gang of thugs with baseball bats whilst I was away at the office. In another separate incident I actually witness (from one block away) a group of thugs hop out of a car (stopped at the traffic lights) and hammered the car in front of them and then the thugs quickly took off. In Sydney, I know of a friend who had his house burgled three times, the last incident occurred whilst he was at a funeral; his mum passed away. In separate incidents; thieves target people's cars (steal phones and whatever) whilst the people are at the cemetery. In another incident; a guy gets carjacked and his fingers cut off. In another incident a guy riding the train to work gets robbed; they want the ring?... one of the thugs cut the ring finger off. In another incident a guy whilst at home is invaded by thugs who knock his security door down, help themselves to stuff and then cuts off his fingers. That guy was a talented sax player. All these incident occurred in Sydney. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore. All these thugs are extremely low-lives and cowards; they operate in groups and never alone.

We have the combined cards as well, but you can't use the debit part for web purchases without linking to your bank site. The number printed on the card is the credit card number. Like mine, there's Mastercard and a debit card combined. I understand you can physically copy the debit card, but I don't understand how you hack it in the web unless you give out the number printed on the card, and that number, here, only applies to the credit feature.

Kalle, Most thefts don't occur through hackers but through thieving employees who jot down your info then log online and shop away before you can spot it. I, like others here, keep my money in my savings account. Then when I want to purchase something I transfer that amount into my debit card and leave .48 cents on the card or what ever is left. Mike

Mike Yes, but what I was curious about is how do you do web purchases with a debit card in a way that can be considered risky? Here you must link to your bank web site in a similar way as you use PayPal. There's no way any employee can get to your money unless there's spyware in your computer or you get lost on a fake bank site. It's more safe than a credit card. And here, when you use debit card in shops, you are the only one who ever touches the card. Nobody can physically copy it. If you pay with a debit card in a restaurant, they take the "paying machine" to the table. Theoretically, a copying device can be mounted on such a portable card interface, so there's a minor risk there that the code gets stolen, but even then nobody can get into you bank account, because they don't have the variable code,( but they could buy stuff in shops). Again, theoretically, it's possible to guess the variable codes, but the banks site only lets you guess three (??) times, and then your card is locked.

My bank does not offer the type of debit card you guys talk about with a floating balance, most debit or check cards down here are tied to your pprimary bank account.
