Very fine and funky, love the guitar tone. I liked the mix on Soundcloud a little better (just my opinion).
Always enjoy your stuff, Frank!

Hi Frank,
Been absent from this joint for a little while and so I'm just catching up on what you've been doing and holy crap is it ever good. I did notice a bit of a jagged edge in this one at about 2.5k on the lead guitar...maybe a multiband to just clamp down on that frequency when it starts to stick up? That way you don't lose the bite entirely the way you would with an EQ, it just puts a ceiling on it. It didn't bug me on the Avantones but it did get a bit piercing at times on the Focals.

Beyond that though, the tonal balance and soundstage is just so good. And speaking of which, if you have a minute could you tell me what your bass guitar signal chain looks like? I'd take as much detail as you have time for...what instrument, effects, eq, the works.

Really nice work
Dean

Thanks for the good ears & words... I played the intro with my Fender Jazz bass through a SansAmp DI, where the signal was split, and fed to an Ampeg Rocket Amp(mic'd w/SM-57), and directly into my hardware mixer... the rest of the tune I played the bass part on my keyboard and looped it...

I really appreciate you all listening and commenting...
I noticed some of you prefered the previous mix over the 2nd one on soundclick... I really don't know which one I like best either...
I may have to have another go at it... but, then again, no

Nice one Frank. Defiantly have to agree with the Little Feet comment earlier. Also sounds a bit like some of the old Delbert McClinton I used to play. Mix is good here.

John Lennon & I have something in common... we both learned to play harmonica from Delbert...

he double tracked "head" was heavily compressed with a "Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer"  even before mastering...

Is that what's giving that wonderful liquid sustain? Got to get me one o' them...

Ha... Yeah, I guess so... I use it quite a lot... works great with the bass-guitar too...
A friend gave this original "Orange Squeezer" to me about 35 years ago, and I've used it ever since... it's like a rabbits foot... I think it brings me luck & makes me play better...
I found a reissued version a while back, but it didn't sound as good as my old one, so I gave it away...
Thanks again for the feedback James...

Woke me up for the superbowl.  Thanks, buddy.  As always, your stuff is top notch and ready for prime time.  I love this one!  The funk bass lines are great.  Real or samples?  Reed Samples is kickin too. :-)

I thumbed my Jazz Bass on the intro... (Soundclick Version)
I played Keyboard-Bass on the rest of the rest of the tune...
Glad you liked...

You're joking - right?? https://soundcloud.com/imogen-heap As to the Gumbo Funk, ah, perhaps the drum part comes across differently in the first one vs. the second one. I guess I am not funky enough for those drum parts though. Otherwise sounds funky gumbo.

I see the vocal tracks to Imogen Heap's song along with GuitarHacker's version also. Are we suppose to try to create are own version just for the yucks of it or whatever it would be?? But it does not look like so far those can be downloaded. Eh, if not well perhaps it just be wasting time since it is over anyway.

A lot of different versions of that song (Imogen Heap song). Had to really search to see (hear) your version again. Just thought the drum part in the song this thread is about, seemed to be a bit buried in the other parts. Probably listen again, but it is funky.

When clicking on your version of the "Song that never was" by Imogen Heap then it went to a page with all those versions of the song. I think perhaps you had added all those versions, but again I may be wrong, but finding your version of that song amist all the others ................but I am not going to listen to all of them. That is separate from this thread about this latest song from you, in which it was gumbo funky according to the description. ??
