Fooman, I agree with you in that the sites should perform with most major browsers. Something I just encountered may be indicative of how backed up their resources are. I just tried updating (adding, really) an avatar to my profile an received an Internal Server Error (regardless of browser). I think they still desire to update the board, but in my opinion, I think they should grab the database, abandon the current custom forum, and simply import into a whole new platform, even if it's with the same company. Cakewalk should have never mucked with this one in the first place, if they weren't going to make it a priority. That tells me someone had too much time, and now they have no time. It is such in reality. I don't hold it against them, but I do recommend correct a mistake sooner than later.

Since John mentioned Opera in another thread somewhere, I've been playing with it. I like it. It's stripped down and basic which I like in a browser. Hence being a Chrome user. I remember a few years ago a member named Ognis always used Opera. I tried it but it worked a little quirky back then. Seems smooth now. I must be the only person who hates FireFox. It always just plain sucks every time I try it. Loads very slow for me. Every page too not just the initial start-up. Some one gave me some pointers on how to get it running better but I didn't like the idea of installing 5 or 6 extensions just to make it work normal. And there's just way too many options and settings. I feel like I'm learning a CAD program just to search for a website. I also get this feeling that FF is like Norton. No matter what you do FF finds it's way into every nook and cranny and is difficult to completely remove. Probably not true but it just feels intrusive to me. With Chrome and Opera I only use one extension. Ad-Block and for Chrome I use IE-Tab but only on Pace iLok site. For some reason under Chrome that site doesn't see my iLok but click IE-Tab and presto. Haven't tried the iLok site with Opera yet because I hardly go there anymore. If it works, great. If not maybe Opera offers an extension similar to IE-Tab. Just my useless 3 cents. Mike

FWIW, I get the ol' Internal Server Error in FF a lot when using the quick reply at the bottom (just did). Never happens with the full editor.
I just re-read my comments below... and it's kinda random, so skip my post if you don't want to read a mini-rant about forum communities. I can only imagine how Cake see's this forum. On one hand, you have this nice user-base that will watch your YouTube vids and tutorials the second they are put online... and on the other hand you have a lot of people that only poke their heads up to complain because everyone who is happy is using the software. I am guilt of this because when Sonar is working well I'm too busy making music and don't feel the need to come on here and discuss how happy I am. Such is the nature of a user forum it seems.
Forum communities are fun. All free and not-mandatory, but people expect instant-replies from developers and constant upgrades to the forum software. If Cakewalk upgrades their forum software and has to pay Joe Developer to finagle the database into the new version's confines, that effort will show up in the prices we pay for the products they actually sell.
I've seen much worse communities in the music gear industry in terms of developer-user interactions. And as for how the forum actually works, Gearslutz is always ragged on when it comes to their search capabilities. They pay for their software and for the user it's free, yet people feel the need to complain... haha. Hell Gearslutz even has a free app for iPhone. I'd never complain about that place. I can't... cause it's free! If you don't like it, go elsewhere to talk muzak.

@chefmike... I'm on Opera. I only use it for this forum (FF elsewhere). I've got ABP and Ghostery installed. Works pretty good. For some reason though I'm having a bugger of a time posting pictures. Not sure what happened. I used to be able to just snag a URL and slap some BB code tags around it. Now I'm not nearly as hilarious. :-/

Fooman, I just have to say that I've been on these forums pretty much daily since 2006 and this is the first time, to my knowledge, that anyone has ever used the word "finagle". Congratulations. I feel this is unfair and have decided to do my part and increase my usage of it here on these forums. I think there are plenty opportunities to use this word and if necessary, one way or another, I will finagle it into more conversations. Thanks for bringing back an 'old' new word of the day. Mike

And pics or not you're still and entertaining lil Beepster. Have you tried hosting the pic's on photobucket then just copy the image code (img) and pasting it here? That seems to work with all browsers. Mike EDIT: Damn, I already forgot to finagle my word of the day into this post. I will try to do better on my next posting. Thanks for your understanding.

@chefmike... lol. I try. ;-) ABP is AdBlock+ so you've already got that. Ghostery is a script blocker like NoScript for Firefox. It keeps all the tracking, ad services, analytics, etc crap from loading on your system. This site isn't too bad for that stuff but it still has google analytics and other crap spying on us. There is a version of NoScript (which IMO opinion is far better than Ghostery) but apparently it doesn't get update very often. This is the kind of thing that makes me refuse to use Chrome. Google's invasive crap is on almost every single webpage these days. I'd hardly trust them to create a browser that respects my privacy. Might as well just install some spyware on your system, lulz. As far as photobucket I have an account but I haven't opened it in ages. When I want to make a visual joke or something I can't be arsed going through the whole login, upload, snag URL, post procedure. I'm a filthy hotlinker. Snagging URLs from photobucket does seem to work though so when I'm looking for an image to post I'll include photobucket in my search terms or search photobucket directly to see if someone with an open account has the image. Most of the time I can find what I'm looking for. Would still rather just draw from the GIS pool. Even the insert image button doesn't work on this site. I paste in the URL, click insert and it just puts in blank space. Not sure if that's Opera or the forum borking up.

The forum sends me instant notifications or daily digests sporadically. Regardless if I visit the forum or not. I have to come back and check my list of Subscribed Posts to see if there are new posts. Like I said - embarassing for a company that produces software. And yes, it deteres potential new customers from Cakewalk. I live in Germany and here everyone is using Cubase and Ableton Live. But what's funny, when they come at my studio or ask me what I use, it turns out they had not even heard of Sonar or Cakewalk!

Browser incompatibilities in this forum are due to the web software package being used: ASPPlayground.NET Forum Commercial Version 3.5 It's a canned solution with know compatibility issues. Last time I checked there were multiple complaints from subscribers about these issues on its forums. Edit: I just took a look at ASPPlaygrounds website and it looks like there are newer versions 3.9/4.0 that fix** the FireFox, Chrome, IE issues. (**statement based on thread topics posted on their support forum)

I've been complaining about browser compatibility issues since the forum had it's last major upgrade (probably 3.5) back when. I got so tired of it that now I rarely visit the cw forums (used to check them out daily). If the web admin doesn't have the chops to handle the upgrade - they should farm it out. There are plenty of programmers out there who could handle this.

Personally, I wish Cakewalk would make the necessary changes so that I won't have to run two browsers. I prefer Chrome but for some reason the last update killed the audio in any video clip I play. I've tried the fixes I have found online but haven't found the cure for it. So I have to use Firefox to view videos and Chrome to post here. (Or not, for this post - with the resulting formatting problems.)

I install all the security updates etc. I have noticed that if I am adding a picture or anything like that it works better if I switch to full size on the reply box. Well, we do know Cakewalk admits that they are due to upgrade the forum. There's another topic regarding credit card payments to Cakewalk.com's store, and what looks like a sarcastic remark from a Cakewalk admin as to why the credit card transactions weren't going through for specific customers. The response was, "This could be something to do with the fact that we due to upgrade our forum software." (or something to that tune). However, I can't tell if this was sheer sarcasm, or if the gentleman believes that these two systems are inter-related.
