I downloaded Valhalla Room yesterday. I listened to it head to head against my CSR install in some old projects. I bought a new reverb license from a guy named Sean. I don't need or want tons more than that. best regards, mike

IK Obi Exactly, except you can do tons more with gear models being added and demoing them as they come out. W/ all due respect, the Custom Shop actually makes it more complicated to demo products. Not only do you need to remain logged into it to demo the product, but every time a new module comes out and you want to try it, you have to re-download and install the entire T-Racks suite to have access to the one module you want to demo. IK also has the shortest demo period I know of in the business.

Its not the entire suite at all. Just the Custom Shop and any bug fixes to the shell. You update with the "Restore my Gear" option and anything demo'd can be redemo'd a few weeks after. There are many that don't offer demo's at all and are locked into other DRM systems like iLok. To many, the Custom Shop is one of the simplest and easiest ways to expand their studios tools.

There are many that don't offer demo's at all and are locked into other DRM systems like iLok. To many, the Custom Shop is one of the simplest and easiest ways to expand their studios tools. That was badly phrased, sorry about that. By entire suite, I meant that you had to re-download T-Racks Custom Shop, which includes everything. It is not possible to download, say, just the Buss Comp in order to demo it - what you need is the latest version of T-Racks, which contains ALL the modules, the ones you own and the ones you don't, ready to be activated or demo'ed or left alone. Comparing IK to the worst in the business doesn't work for me. In most cases, I prefer not to do business with companies that don't offer a demo. And as much as I hate iLok, as I've posted earlier, I've had much better luck with it than w/ the old IK authorization manager. On the other hand, I'm likely to speak highly of companies like Waldorf and their 100 days demo for PPG 3. Or 112db and their 60 days no limit trial version. Steinberg offers 30 days on their instruments. 14 days trial also seem to be fairly common. It's a shame Obi, because, I am demoing it right now and that new Buss compressor of your is totally KILLER. I think it's easily one of the best plug-ins you guys have created.

That doesn't mean I won't use it - only that I think there is room for improvement in the CS concept and that the demo period is a bit short for my taste.

Waves - I really dug the buss comp when I demoed the bundle but, as a package and with the channel strip also taken into account, I actually preferred McDSP's G Channel, which does not only the SSL thing but also Neve, API and such. But the IK one seems to provide that instant gratification factor, which isn't unlike my favorite - the Duende Buss Comp. I'll spend some more time working w/ it today, but I'm really liking what it's doing to my mixes, along w/ the British Channel.

One thing - anyone else using British Channel around here find it a bit CPU intensive? Using 8 instances on each individual EZ Drummer output for testing purposes, the CPU meters in my DAW climbed up pretty radically - like, twice as much as when running the same number of McDSP's G Channel, which has the same modules (gate/exp, compression and EQ) and even more meters? I'm hoping that IK will tighten their BC up - if they can get Amplitube to take so little resources, I'm guessing that they should be able to optimize their channel strip. It does sound great and it's really awesome to work with (especially with the new GUI).

But in my opinion, provided you're careful about which sites(!) you visit and have suitable anti virus/malware software installed, you stand as much risk of infecting your machine as you do from plugging in a usb stick. My method? - Enable AV/AM
- Plug in wireless adapter
- Do what I need to do, be it authorisation, downloads etc
- Pull the adapter
- Disable AV/VM
End of. I've been doing this for a couple of years and have had zero problems, and believe me, I was as paranoid as the next guy about putting my machine online and compromising my security. But it makes licensing & authorising SO much easier

Bristol_Jonesey I used to think this way. But in my opinion, provided you're careful about which sites(!) you visit and have suitable anti virus/malware software installed, you stand as much risk of infecting your machine as you do from plugging in a usb stick. I have seen first hand the havoc of virus distribution using removable media on computers that are never connected to the internet. Indeed in my company Windows computers that are not connected to the internet had a much higher rate of infection until we introduced a policy of installing anti virus software and keeping it up to date. Another good tip is turn auto run off for removable media. As a result I am far more paranoid about USB sticks than internet connections. My previous DAW was connected to the Internet full time and used as a general purpose browsing as well as authorizations for several years without problems apart from some low level malware like tracking cookies, however my new DAW is connected but only be used for selected sites for downloads and authorizations etc. The other stuff will is done on the old machine. You can say I have been lucky, but with viruses, most of the time you make your own luck.

While I am not a great fan of Custom Shop as an eCommerce application I did come to realise some of its advantages when setting up my new DAW. One install and running "Restore my gear" takes care of what would have otherwise been several individual installations. Another maligned application is Native Instruments "Service Centre" but showed its worth in insuring I had all the latest patches. Doing the same thing with Toontrack involved building a list and ticking off each update as it was installed.

I love the British Channel. It has proven it's worth ten fold on the bass tracks and the snare. I'm still experimenting with it on the guitar tracks and haven't decided whether I like on the individual tracks or as a sum on the guitar buss. A fantastic plug!

Hey Obi! I have installed the TRacks CS 64bit and done the "restore my gear". Everything shows up fine. Is it okay to delete the old vsts for the Tracks Deluxe and previous versions of TRacks and CSR now that TRacks CS is installed and is populated and working? I see that Tracks CS has its own dll's and know not to delete them. Just want to clear up some vsts real estate in the plugin manager.
