OK the spam is annoying, but its hardly reached epidemic proportions like some forums. One way it could be handled is the first "n" posts of a new member are moderated before they appear on the forum. Is this more, or less work for the mods than cleaning up afterwards?

Trolling is another issue.

On balance I like the rather free and easy atmosphere here and can put up with the occasional spam or godparticle.

I'm with you Glyn
The only real case against it making it for registered users I can think of (and I think it's quite a strong one) is people who are seriously thinking of buying sonar and have downloaded the demo but are having problems
or those who will download the demo once they have cleared up whatever questions they may have.
This can only be done on an open forum. It would be better perhaps if the forum moderators were a little quicker in getting rid of the spammers.
As for the trolls, I never give them the time of day.

Hahaha! To be fair though, you sold it to the masses. A great businessman is not one who comes up with a great idea, but one who executes the idea with perfect form. And for that, my friend, you win this round. ALL HAIL JIMBO!

Maybe Cakewalk could allow some of the people who frequent this forum to be a moderator with limited powers so they can block spam. that to me would be a better solution. Cakewalk customers seem to be more protective of the forum then cakewalk itself.

The problem with the report abuse button is it could take awhile for them to catch on to a God Particle. If some of the loyal customers had the power to block a post until cakewalk themselves could review it, then I think that would resolve the issue.

This forum is actually pretty good compared to some of the others I have been involved with.

What insults me is that it seems so easy for spammers to post. For the biggest part of the evening tonight, I couldn't even post, and I'm still having all kind of issues.

Can you imagine how they'd flood those forums if the forum software actually worked?

Don't remind me....

Actually, I did suggest awhile back that one could do a combination of number of posts and moderation/approval of said posts...cs.trains.com does just that very thing...we can even delete entire threads as user/moderators. We just can't ban the ninny that created the issue in the first place

Propellerhead's forum automatically displays symbols in each user's signature representing the user's registered products.

that spammings crazy, at least i know where to get a new ID if i ever decide to commit the bank robbery of the centuary. Here's the way i think it should be, you shouldnt be able to post unless you own the product. Like wat kev said about props website, you get a signature for wat you paid for , from wat i just said there, i think the presonus forums are like that, you cant post unless you are a reg user

I would opt for a registered users section with a decent layout with dedicated sections for each cakewalk program/edition.
It becomes a nightmare when people don't post in relevant area's with regards to which version of Sonar they are using and leaves those who are still using older versions out in the cold.
It's hard work as a mod keeping on top of spammers and the like in general forums and its tiresome to have to be moving posts all the time, i've done all of this in the past on other forums and tbh, modding is a thankless job which often is made harder by those who are generally trying to be nice and helpful, but come off as snarky and rude.

Just a thought:

This topic is like a loop of a good drum part that just doesn't end and doesn't change and no known way to make it stop playing.
There really is a Cakewalk Twilight Zone.

Please guys, stop replying in those Spam threads.

Of course, report it if you're first there, but then just let it die away until it's deleted.

For one thing, replying to the threads brings them back to the top, instead of dropping off the page into obscurity.

Why can't you all just ignore the spam ? I do it all the time. Easiest solution of them all - doesn't require anyone to do anything.

The way Steinbergs forum works is you do have to have a registered version to post in that products forum. Example, I can only post to the LE forum as that's the version I own. I cannot post to the full version forum. Until I upgraded Wave lab I couldn't post there either, I had to post in the legacy forum. So what would happen is I couldn't post here as I am only a legacy product owner.

You can post in other parts of their forum. So here it would be unregistered people would post in the Hardware or Coffee house.
