I too support an updated functionality to allow for live audio recording of a VSTi being played. I can imagine many variables (phase or delay effects, certain portions of tone fluctuations, etc.) that you wish to capture *just so*, that might instead play/export with such variables unpredictably random to varying degrees each time you have a pass at it. I would strongly support inclusion of this feature within a hopeful X2b (*fingers crossed for such an update at all!!*). As others have said above, it seems like such a basic feature to expect... so let's see it, Cake! (PLEASE) :)

I seem to remember a VST plugin that would record anything routed into its track. Could this be the answer to this issue? Hang on, here it is: http://www.silverspike.com/?Products:TapeIt

Sonar X2 Producer. Focusrite Saffire 6, Fender Strat, black PC for recording and mixing. That is all.
