FWIW, there are still people using the ProAudio series and probably every version of SONAR. There was a thread recently about someone recently upgrading from SONAR 2. Software rapidly goes out of support but it still works and there are many people here that offer pretty decent support for Cakewalk and many other audio products.

Yep - good points Danny.

I guess I never really thought much about the 'whole troll thing' as I just don't think that way.

It's like - I'd make a really sh*tty criminal, because I just don't have that 'criminal element' that I've heard of. I simply don't think in those terms.

But it makes sense.

Shame that some of these 'trolls' are planted at all.

Whatever happened to 'Live & let live'?  And 'To each, his own'?

I have only one other DAW, and I'm on those forums as well.

I do see that there are just as many complaints and frustrations there as anywhere, I would imagine.

I should mention that Sonar X2a is working just fine for me, as did X1d, so I myself am not actually concerned with new versions and/or patch release dates.

After having and working with both, I have chosen Sonar X2a to be my #1 DAW, as much as I like to dabble & learn what I can within both.

For me, Sonars' features & tools outweigh the other one, as well as Cake's 20-some-odd year history & experience.

Makes sense to me that a much more sophisticated DAW like Sonar with very many features & options, can inherently have more potential for problems & glitches, especially when computers are so varied, and are not necessarily optimized for Audio/Video production, which I assume many are not - at least not initially.

Rock on!

Where did the rumor come from? From my perspective, it was from a message a beta-tester received from Cakewalk regarding X3, but obviously didn't honor the NDA when he/she posted about it in the forum. Cakewalk responded that "it's" not done baking yet, but there is no depiction as to whether this is for X2b, X3, or anything else.

So, yes, X3 is probably coming. I hope not so soon.

Actually it was an image from the video promoting MC6 Touch.

Yes, people come and go. Some for technical reasons, and others perhaps for visual reasons (get bored of the skin).

As for trolls, they are everywhere. The worst ones are those that rip a copy off a torrent and then complain.

I think that fact that this forum is so active, shows that there are a lot of users, which is comforting. I'll read more threads before I make my decision, but for the cost of X2 compared to others, it packs a lot more in. Saying that, I'm not going to use every feature under the sun, but having them there in case I try my hand at more complex works is a good thing.

The thing I worry about is buying X2, and then a newer version comes out, leaving me with old, unsupported software.

All the best,

Lee.

you bring up a great point lee.
and this was the point I was trying to make.
ive been on the sales side before, I know the strategy's.
you say as little as possible for reasons you've just mentioned.

sonar does not want to talk about patches and x..what ever it is. ???
if they released a sticky saying..okay heres our plans.. we're going to do this..do that..and this...

you'd have your mind made up on what you are going to do months ahead of schedules.
why would you buy sonar x2 if they told you sonar z3 was coming...

I saw that image as well, and it caught my eye, but it didn't raise much of an eyebrow for me. That could simply be that someone's anticipating X3. The one I'm referring to was responded to by someone at CW. I won't point the thread out, or the response, but I will say it raised my eyebrow way more than the image from the video before that.

Meh, I'm as shocked at seeing an X3 folder on a dev machine as I am about seeing an Avengers 2 subject line on Robert Downey Jr's email. Not that I read his email....that would be wrong. So hilariously wrong.

Someone at the beginning of this thread of speculations asked, what would the harm be for Cakewalk to announce X3 is coming? Sales of X2 would stop, as just mentioned, because of such a nebulous announcement. When Cakewalk actually does announce X3 it will likely also announce a window of time during which purchases of X2 will be upgraded for free, so sales do not need to stop.

Software: Cakewalk by Bandlab; Adobe Audition; Band-in-A-Box audiophile; Izotope Ozone; Encore; Melodyne; Win 10 Pro, 64-bit.

Hardware: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd; Roland Integra-7; TCE Finalizer; Presonus Central Station, Behringer X-Touch.  Home built i7 with 16 GB RAM, SSDs.
