Some of those obits are for products that died out with their platforms. Amiga and Atari being the biggest.
My old Atari rig with Master Tracks Pro was the best for midi. In fact, it seemed a lot easier than Cakewalk back then. It never crashed. Wouldn't it be nice if a current PC maker put midi on board again? I could really do with a round of midi maze about now.

Turtle Beach's Quad Studio. Had that application... and it NEVER worked properly. Switched to the original version of SAW... and from there to a combo of Cakewalk Pro Audio and Samplitude Studio. That was a really exciting time...

That was a really exciting time...
I had the Quad Studio also. What a nightmare.

It's way behind the curve Rain- you're just stuck on Crapple and can't see it.
I'll tell you what I can see off the top of my head: Swipe comp, varispeed, dedicated audio editor, proper notation, input channels, import project data, busses which can be routed anywhere, score to movie, a rock solid audio engine - all of which are still sore spots for Sonar users - and a GUI and functionalities which has recently been ripped off by Cakewalk and touted as a breakthrough enhancement for Sonar (they even gave it a name, Skylight)... If Logic is behind the curve, where does that leave Sonar? I've used Cake/Sonar for over 10 years, I still use Pro Tools, Cubase and I've only recently sold my Studio One license. It isn't a Mac vs PC thing. Logic IS great. Sonar is great. They all have their advantages. But the reason I'm revisiting this thread was JSComposer sarcastic comment about Mac Pro... Apple just announced the new Mac Pro for 2013. As with everything, a lot of people falling for hype and a lot of people making sarcastic comment, but very few seem to be able to do anything but quote sales pitch or fall into sarcasm and name calling. Fanboys and haters, both bringing as little to the table.

I think Acid Pro 7 might hang in there for awhile yet. They have a recent update 7e. Still no 64 bit or rework of the rewire but not dead yet. I think there may be something in the works but it's only an assumption on my part.
Sony seems to be busy coding to mac with some of their more popular titles. I see an uncanny similarity between Acid Pro and Cakewalk Sonar. Both bought out by larger interests. Lets hope the similarities end there.

I was an avid user of OctaMED on the Amiga back in the day. I had a crude 8-bit sampling cartridge and that was it. 4 channels of sound (or 8 at half the quality), but I had great fun chopping up samples from my record collection to make gritty sounding trip hop and drum & bass. It kind of looked like Cakewalk in the DOS days.

Sony Acid 7.0e came out more than 3 years ago unfortunately. It is still a very good DAW but has problems with lots of my plugins and is 32bit only also.
I had no idea the update was that old. I guess three years can still be recent if you're 106( time doesn't matter as much :). I bought it on a whim because I had a serial number from way back. I figured that the included loops were worth the price to upgrade which was a special at the time.I knew Sonar could read the loops if I decided to use them. I was pleasantly surprised that it loaded and all worked well on my win7 64 bit machine. I had a folder full of decent 32 bit plug-ins which it reads very well. I seem to work very well in this software. I had a few recorded tracks into it quickly. It is a very uncluttered gui . I wish it had rewire that talked to Sonar 64 bit without the need for anything else though. As it is I brought a project into Sonar quickly with the multi- track export function in Acid. I hope Acid Pro stays around and works on my computer for a long time.
