Lovely axe you've got there Andy, well 2 of 'em to be precise!

Keep on practising mate, and this

Considering I've been playing guitar for over thirty years, well, needless to say, I've never made a living at it

Quilted Maple is another type of figured Maple just like birds eye or flame. Your guitar has a highly figured top that shows more figuring than usual. The 10 top designation is used by PRS, where Gibson would use AAAAA for the same type of wood. It just means the wood is an exceptional piece with the highest degree of figuring.

Nice Axe.

Thanks for the info ampfixer. This thing cost me a lot of money and peeps not in the know must wonder "why?" But when you go into the detail, it's all there. I believe that the 57/08 pickup would be something like $500 on its own. Then you have all the fancy inlay and the wood detailing, all hand crafted. Definitely worth every penny in my opinion. I'm struggling to get my missus on side though... she is pretty mad with me.

Congrats buddy, that's a real beauty, and I'm sure you're going to really love it!

Best Wishes,
Bob

Thanks Bob, you're right, of course

It also had the older standard style of birds, but I like these much better as well.

Cheers jimusic, and thanks

If I come over there with it I'd probably have to get it a seat on the plane, under the name of Mr Smith perhaps (I believe Steve Howe did the same with his favourite Gibson ES175).

Erm... It has been a while since I've played. My left hand finger tips are getting rather sore. Any tips? Should I soak them overnight in linseed oil or something?

Just play as much as you can. Push the discomfort as far as you can stand it. In a short time, your fingertips will toughen up.
The muscles in your fingers are another story. If they start to hurt, back off. They are easily damaged, and can take a long time to heal.

That is a gorgeous guitar, and I imagine finding the inspiration to play it a lot won't be hard to find.

Thanks for the advice Robert. Yes, it is a very inspiring guitar. I even played my SG, for a little bit, last night, so that has to be good. In fact, it has made me appreciate my SG even more now for some reason.

Thanks Jonesey

It's good to hear that I'm not on my own athough I wouldn't mind betting you'd still blow me socks off in a geetar duel LOL. And as for practising... I don't think we ever stop that

I ended up playing it for around four hours solid last night. Fingers didn't quite bleed... I don't have an amp so I plug my guitars into my QUAD-CAPTURE and run it through TH2 in Sonar, or guitar rig, whatever takes my fancy. I like noodling and I generally put a bass synth pad playing E and then layer a couple of simple plucked type sequences panned left and right. Added to that is the simplest of Battery Full Jazz kit patterns, just kick, snare and hi-hat. And that's me then... four hours later and in even more trouble than I was when I walked into the house with a black box. I think I have gone down to about minus five hundred and sixty three browny points now..............................

My missus has not given me as much of a hard time as I expected about the new addition to the family, so I am thankful for that

She has said, however, that she will be spending as much as I paid for my guitar on something for herself, which is fair enough...

Only problem now is she wants me to learn all of the songs on Led Zepp's first five albums. That ain't gonna happen. I might be able to learn Solitude by Black Sabbath... only has two chords in it and a guitar melody part that even I can master
