iLok down for improvements...
Got all my new licenses for my Softube purchases...registered and sent em to iLok...only iLok seems to be "down for major improvements" so I can't, as yet, license and use my Softube purchases. No biggie. But I'll keep ya posted as to when iLok comes back up and whatever hoops I have to jump through to get working.

Sorry to hear that Ol' pal. Hope they get up and running soon so you can enjoy the new toys. Maybe there will also be some more positive policy changes also but, probably not...
Purrrfect Audio DAW here. Wow!...

I just hope it still recognizes me when it gets back up. I might have to dig up my password.....oh no! At least the "down for major update" page looks all sparkly new. We'll see.

I actually received my notice from an aware vendor who wanted it's customers to have a smooth transition. It sure seems like iLok itself should have notified us that this window would open up and leave people stranded. It just seems like further evidence that iLok is nothing but a huge "con" on any purchase decision list. I'm using it... but it seems like extortion performed by an outfit that only really seems to care about itself and maintaining a parasitic symbiosis with developers desperate to not have their work stolen. I get why the developers use it... but iLok stinks. The fact that it can't swap out a website in less than a few minutes suggests to me that they don't have a vital operation and that they are merely accustomed to milking the developers for extortion money. I anticipate that vendors will iUnlock the stuff in the coming years. best regards, mike

Seems more "professional" compared with what they had going before. I'm a little confused though. Can we now transfer iLok licenses to our computer or store them on a cloud account ala Waves? It seems that transfers between users has been made much easier which is very nice.

yoropal: whenever I have bought softube stuff they have sent me an email to say the licenses have been placed in my iLok account. They might be a bit slower than normal because of this sale. Fingers crossed for you here that they arrive at the right destination. Not a nice feeling waiting on people half the world away when you have put your money on the table.

I would be so mad if I paid good money for a plugin that I can not use right away and have to wait days because the company has to do maintance . Ilok is evil !! I would never buy or support any company that decided to go with the devil .

Well, the new iLok client isn't working for me yet. Keeps telling me the server is down, no internet connection, etc. To see if anyone else was in the same boat, I just checked GS and what do you know ... a veritable sh*tstorm of complaints about the new client disabling existing iLok licenses! Probably a good thing I couldn't get it to work, as my licenses still function within my DAW. But I can't download any new licenses until things get straightened out within iLok's secret lair. So, I have one thing to say to those of you who distrust iLok: You were right. Cheers, Eddie P.S. I'm sure this will get sorted out soon, but there are many professionals out there who currently can't work with their usual tools. I'd be EXTREMELY upset if that happened to me. Zero down time, indeed! Har har.

Actually they'd be a size or two too small Jonesy, ol pal:-) My Softube licenses were delivered this morning. Only problem was the new iLok server was back down. I'm sure I'll get em taken care of today. But it has been...interesting...to say the least.

Maybe these latest complaints & problems will put another nail in the coffin & the remaining devs will stop using & requiring iLok altogether.

It would be a shame if they improved themselves out of a job. Of course, the alternative could be worse, although I do not see how. At any rate, I hope they get it sorted out soon for those that rely on their services.

iLok is a PITA... but as someone who's DAW is constantly changing (not the norm I know), it's also a PITA dealing with limited "authorizations" via challenge/response. I don't even have Ampeg SVX installed right now... because I'm out of authorizations. Yes, I can call and beg for the authorizations to be reset, but that's also a PITA. I like my IKMM products (don't get me wrong) but when I called to order the CS Grand Update, I was told my authorizations (for previous TRacks singles) wouldn't be reset. Which is worse?

Well that is a false dilemma. Not a big fan of the IK solution either. Certainly there are alternatives to those two method. I can imagine at least two.

Well... sure... there are always options. But there are certain plugins that I want to use that are fundamental for me (LA-2A, Pultec, 1176, IK's Peak-Limiter, Melodyne, SSL Bundle, Phoenix Verb, etc). In my scenario (which I realize is not common), the iLok ends up being easier to deal with (PITA and all) than many challenge/response schemes. On the flip-side, Spectrasonics challange/response has been pretty easy to deal with...

Jim, you mean IK won't let you use products you've bought and paid for? Isn't that some kind of breach of agreement? How can they get away with that? Absurd! Last time I upgraded my DAW (new CPU), the easiest non-iLok plugins for me to get back up and running (of those with copy protection) were the ones from NI. I find their system to be very easy. Waves weren't too bad either, but their scheme isn't exactly simple or bulletproof. As of now, today's iLok debacle is not yet resolved. Hopefully the fine folks at Softube will consider adopting the copy-protection scheme used by their friends at NI. Cheers, Eddie

Yup...everything new is old again...I just went home for lunch and tried to activate my three new plugs. The slick new license manager was just as slow and sketchy as the old site in logging on and even more cryptic in how to activate the now available plugs. Plus, at the very end of activating the second of the three... the server went down again. Luckily I checked in Sonar and both plugs were actually activated. But now I have to wait until I think the server is rock solid before activating the CL1-B...that's the one I really wanted. It's truly worrisome.

Hi Eddie, To be fair, if I call IK... I'm sure I can get the issue resolved. For me, I guess it comes down to, "Which of the two is less of a PITA?" You are absolutely right about the NI activation. Decided to spring for the Komplete 9 Ultimate upgrade over the weekend. Though not cheap, there's a lot of useful content in the upgrade. Looking forward to checking out the Reverb/Dynamics/EQ (algorithms from Softube).
