When is this forum software going to be fixed?

Despite being chided here by CW for an earlier derisory comment I have to say again that this software is not fit for purpose.  Almost every time I try to post I get that stupid error pop up, which takes about 15 seconds or more to appear, hence multiple posts.  Enough time has passed for any kinks to be ironed out, let's see some action.

Edit:
I just tried to reply to a post below titled 'Hello'.  I couldn't help the poster because my response won't take - error popup etc.  So it appears that this morning new posts work but all replies are banned/blocked/lost in the ether.  Apologies to that poster, I'd switch to Studio One if I were you.  Hang on, actually I have,

    Skyline_UK,

I'm not having any issues. I use Windows 8, Windows XP, Linux (currently) and my Android phone on the forum. I haven't double posted yet.

One time, during the stage when the search engine spiders were pounding the site because it was new, I got a message saying there was a timeout, but my post actually did go through. I just need to hit F5 to see it. I use Firefox, Google Chrome and IE (various versions all the way back to 8).

So, because you're in the UK and I'm in US East Coast, perhaps the time of day that you are posting is relevant to your issue? Are they running backups during the window of time when you're wanting to use the forum? Full-text indexing? I don't know.

Performance may also take hit if you are a long way from the servers themselves. We know the govt is snooping, so does snooping add much latency? I don't know. Are other people in the UK all having the same issues?

Anyway, I just wanted to post and say that I for one, haven't experienced any problems. I am definitely not trying to say that you aren't. More, trying to run down what the problems might be.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I have trouble posting frequently as well. Using Firefox as well as IE and on my android phone. Sometimes it will work if I open the full reply sometimes not. Last time I found that by refreshing the page and trying again I could get it to work.

    Hopefully this post will take.

The only issue I have (which I also have with other music forums, incidentally) is that I get logged out from time to time even though I have my preferences set to keep me logged in.  I *think* it's to do with opening multiple forum tabs simultaneously using a group in IE (also happens in Firefox) but can't prove it.

FWIW, my forum experience has been so much better than since the upgrade.   Coincidentally, perhaps, I'm also on the US East Coast.    And ironically, for sure, I was getting many duplicate posts before the upgrade using IE9.

While that glitch is annoying I just copy the text and wait for a while then try again. I used to have to do that FAR more with the old forum because it went down or lagged almost daily. I haven't had a double post yet... but that's because I'm aware of the glitch so I don't click the submit button frantically.

I think the new look is a little bloated but all the features seem to work in FF now so the minor things I don't like are far outweighed by the improved functionality. Besides, I frequent sites whose sole purpose is to... well, be a website. No product, built by pros, huge daily hit numbers, and they still go down and throw errors sometimes. Just the nature of the beast.

Oh and Cake can't do much to fix it. This is a template site. You'd have to yell at these guys if want a fix...

    @Tom Riggs
Hey. The site depends on Java Script files that have to come down. If you can hit F5 and re-load the page to resolve a posting issue, perhaps the first time the page loaded you didn't get all the files? If you use Google Chrome and hit F12 you can see all the files that come across the wire for the page. If some of these files don't download for some reason, then the page would behave badly (by like not posting when you click submit). Also, if I remember, you are outside the USA?

    Beepster,
While much of most new Web API sites is templated these days there is a cake javascript file coming down with the page that I have assume is associated with our Boston friends. They aren't totally powerless here.

Hi, gswitz... I think that's just the host domain for the store. I'm not sure exactly how this works but it looks to me that the main Cakewalk website (the Store) and then they slapped the forum code from the template into that as a link. One of the Admins would have to let us know how deep they can dig into the template stuff but I'm assuming that they can't actually get at the raw code. Even if they could those errors are more than likely caused by the server hiccuping (I believe they are hosted by Amazon) like when it used to take forever to post a comment on the old version. I'm not a web developer though so that's merely a crude guess.

One thing I wish they would bloody well fix, and I'm sure they could, is raise the PM Inbox limit. 25 is not nearly enough when people are sending links and info that you might want to save for future reference. It's annoying.

I too have trouble posting. Many duplicate (one quintuplicate post) posts. The browser I use doesn't seem to make a difference.
On my android phone there are many occasions where I can't post at all. The post box accepts the text but when I click submit there is no activity. On my phone I can't quote or edit a post. It doesn't matter which browser the result is the same.

There are many problems with the new forum. One is the inability to include links. Another is the fact that one can't know at any one time if a post will go through or not. Hence the number of duplicative posts.  Also I have seen too many times when I click on the last post in a long thread it only goes to some middle post.

Before we had a lot of problems but now it seems a lot worse. I was willing to wait and give it time to get straitened out but it seems this mess is the way it will be.  CW should address this and soon.

I'm not having issues, with the new forum, but lowering the line-spacing and add a "go to last post" button would certainly be nice. Reading on an iPhone or iPad requires lots of scrolling.

I've been getting the delay on post submission but otherwise it seems okay to me (using Chrome on PC and Android phone). On the other hand I'm not a heavy user of this forum...mostly just browsing, with occasional posts when I think I might be able to help.

Sorry to hear, and see, so many members having a difficult time with the forum software. Regarding the delay thing I do give an extra bit of time to avoid the multi-click multi-post syndrome.

Hi, Mudgel. Are you using the Mobile version of the site? Up in the top right corner under the log in link is a link labeled Menu. Within that is another menu labeled Themes. There is a mobile version in there. Not sure if it will help though because I post from my lappy.

I usually just paste the URL in and it creates a hyperlink but yes the link buttons do seem to work here as scook describes.

Type what you want the link text to say.

Highlight that text (now the link option buttons become available).

Click the link button (the URL window opens)

Paste the URL into the box.

    Profit.

For some reason I cant remember I've always used Opera as my browser. Never had a hiccup using the forums here, before or after update. Sure I think it's way too big and white all of a sudden but I can cope.

Just offerin' the thought as it could be a) simple fix for using the site ... or b) helps troubleshoot.

I downloaded Opera specifically for this site because it worked with the forum and gave me the script/ad blocking I usually use in FF. My preferred browser is FF though so the fact I can just use one browser for everything again is very much a bonus.

Try the steps I posted above. Maybe it's just not playing nice with Opera but it works here. Cheers.

Hmm, ironically enough, all the issues you speak of I had on the previous forum software. I even had to make it a point to use firefox instead since it at least reduced the errors to very little. This new forum software has been absolutely great compared to that. I'm quite happy with this new forum change.

Hmm, ironically enough, all the issues you speak of I had on the previous forum software. I even had to make it a point to use firefox instead since it at least reduced the errors to very little. This new forum software has been absolutely great compared to that. I'm quite happy with this new forum change.

+1   That's been my experience as well using IE9.
