You guys are too kind! Honestly a lot of useful features are due to user suggestions and feedback from beta testers.

I own both and have to say I'm loving the Orange Tree product. To me those presets are brilliant, and a little instant gratification goes a long way. There's been some discussion about one being picked and one being fingered, but I can get the OT bass to be as nasty as I want. It's simply brilliant and well worth the money.

I just ordered a few sets of new strings so I can sample the picked version of the Rick next. It'll be a lot of work, but at least the script and interface is already together. ;)

Greg, if we still have your attention, is there any plan to update the excellent Jaco bass?

While I don't currently have an update scheduled for the Jaco bass, I DO want to make an update for it. A more modern script, like the one in EEB Rick, would be a big improvement, and I think it would actually be able to utilize the samples themselves better. For example, I sampled a whole layer of sustains that have more of that buzz/mwah sound. The current script uses the samples when playing slides, but I think giving the user more direct access to all those samples would be better.

I'd just like to say to anyone watching these videos who hasn't used this type of instrument before and may be thinking that it looks too complicated, it's really not. I don't have the Rick yet, but I have other OTS products and IMO the articulation scripting in Greg's products is very straightforward and logical. (At least, from the user's perspective; I'm sure the code is a nightmare.)

Thanks for the recommendation, Bitflipper. I think the trickiest part to "get" in the sample library is the priorities in the mapping section. In other words, if you play a note that qualifies for more than one articulation (for example, if they're mapped on overlapping ranges), it won't play both articulations simultaneously, but prioritize one over the other to play. Hopefully the video tutorial I made on that concept will help, though. Here's a video tutorial on the memory options in Evolution Electric Bass Rick. These memory options will load and unload samples as needed, giving you flexibility with how much RAM the patch uses. Video Tutorial: "Evolution Electric Bass Rick - Memory Options"

Wow, Orange tree rocks. On top of the quickly released video's, I just got my first free update. Greg is setting the bar pretty high, glad I bought it.

gregjazz Enjoy! I can't wait to start working on the picked version, too. ...
I'm really interested in the Rick library, but with only 2 music samples on the product page I don't get a lot of examples of its sound. I've listen to the NI library and there are a lot of tones I like, but I'd like to hear more of "Rick". One of the tones I want to be sure of from a Rickenbacker is a Beatles era McCartney - (could that be the Macca?) I'm also a flatwound type of guy. Does the OT use flatwounds, and/or will the picked version use flatwounds? Now that I hear there will be an OT picked version I don't know whether to wait for that one, could it be that current users might get a discount on the picked version....?

tyd2 I'm really interested in the Rick library, but with only 2 music samples on the product page I don't get a lot of examples of its sound. I've listen to the NI library and there are a lot of tones I like, but I'd like to hear more of "Rick". I'll have to make more demo songs, or a video that goes through the included presets. You might also check out the video tutorial on the effects, which will give you a general idea of the different tones Evolution Electric Bass Rick can get. tyd2 One of the tones I want to be sure of from a Rickenbacker is a Beatles era McCartney - (could that be the Macca?)
Yup. Bear in mind that it's modeled after his general Rickenbacker tone, but it doesn't have the bridge mute and is played finger-style. tyd2 I'm also a flatwound type of guy. Does the OT use flatwounds, and/or will the picked version use flatwounds?
I used round-round strings because of the versatility it gives you with the high end. It's fairly simple to use an EQ (even the built-in EQ) to attenuate the highs and emulate the tone of flatwound strings. tyd2 Now that I hear there will be an OT picked version I don't know whether to wait for that one, could it be that current users might get a discount on the picked version....? There should be a discount, considering it's likely that I offer bundle discounts of both libraries as well.
