I must strongly disagree with this thread in the harshest terms I can muster. It's a disgrace! I think for the pittance we pay in license fees the BBC should be entitled to inconvenience us far, far more than they actually do. I'd gladly pay double for the license fee and ask them to inconvenience me twice as much if I could. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lzS8yW8INA

It would appear that I'm still on hold ======================================================================= Your Reference CAS-2287551-244F1H Thanks for recently contacting the BBC. We aim to reply to complaints within 10 working days (around 2 weeks) and do so for most of them but cannot for all. The time taken depends on the nature of your complaint, how many others we are dealing with and can also be affected by practical issues such as whether a production team is available or away on location. This is to let you know that we have referred your complaint to the relevant staff but that it may take longer than 10 working days to reply. We therefore ask you not to contact us further in the meantime. If it does prove necessary however, please use our webform, quoting any reference number we provided. This is an automatic email sent from an account which is not monitored so you cannot reply to this email address. In order to use the licence fee efficiently we may not investigate every issue if it does not suggest a substantive breach of guidelines, or may send the same reply to everyone if others have complained about the same issue. You can read full details of our complaints procedures and how we consider the issues raised in feedback at www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/handle-complaint/. In the meantime we’d like to thank you for contacting us with your concerns. We appreciate your patience in awaiting a response. Kind regards, BBC Complaints.www.bbc.co.uk/complaints NB This is sent from an outgoing account only which is not monitored. You cannot reply to this email address but if necessary please contact us via our webform quoting any case number we provided. =======================================================================

Well and truly fobbed off.... =================================================== Reference CAS-2287551-244F1H Thanks for contacting us. We understand you’ve become frustrated as you feel many BBC programmes don’t start or begin at exactly the right time and this means you often miss the start or the end of a programme. We allow programme-makers some flexibility in running time, although all programmes are expected to run about one minute less than their slot time so that we can accommodate promotional trails and continuity announcements. If a programme is over-running slightly, it may be necessary to begin it a little early. On occasions some programmes may start up to one minute early or run up to two or three minutes late, to enable viewers from one BBC channel to switch to a programme on the other BBC channel without missing the start. Commercial channels experience exactly the same problems but have commercial airtime built into their schedules and can make adjustments more easily than the BBC. Generally speaking this causes little or no annoyance to the majority of viewers and we feel that allowing a small amount of flexibility is a reasonable approach to programme transmission. Nevertheless we appreciate your concerns with the timings of our programmes therefore please be assured that we’ve registered your complaint on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures your points, and all other comments we receive, are made available across the BBC. The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content. Thanks once again for taking the time to contact us. Kind Regards Claire Jordan BBC Complaints www.bbc.co.uk/complaints ===================================================

A minute early or two or three minutes late would be great if they could do that here. That is not too much to complain about. How late are programs running in the UK?. Here it is more like 20 minutes late which is positively terrible.

Jeff, it's only a couple of minutes here and there, but often that's just enough so you miss the start of the show you're switching over to. 20 minutes is ridiculous though. I should write a stiff letter to Kerry Packer or whoever runs Aussie TV these days

I've got DirecTV here (satelite) and it has the recording ability to add time before and after a show (which I do). When I used to have cable, I wanted to do this but couldn't if I needed to record a different channel as well. My new setup can record up to five shows at once so it can handle the overlaps well.

Ok, while my last post was technically correct, I just went to watch the movie I recorded a week ago and what do I find? 44 minutes of the end of a sporting event followed by my movie "joined in progress." Useless. Bah.

US TV must be much better than ours. I can barely think of one "must see" show. The chances of there being 5 on at the same time are about as likely as me going to the moon and bumping into Bapu eating spacedust and counting moonrocks during a well earned posting break.

Well, when you have 785 channels available (which is what I currently get though I've reduced the list to "only" 220 that I'll actually use), you have a lot of choices.
