This is some great meditation music for me! I enjoy relaxing and meditating at times and this provide a great ocean feeling breeze like atmosphere that puts my mind in a meditation mood. I enjoyed the music!!!

What a wonderful piece of music. Hugely evocative and mood-shifting, your ability to paint a deeply meaningful sound-scape is electrifying, drawing the listener into your vision of a world of oceanic beauty. Love it.
 

I'm glad this thread got bumped because I skipped over it when it was first posted. And I'll admit why: you called it "electronica". I just don't like most electronica. The bulk of the genre consists of tedious drones, automated arpeggios, drum machines on autopilot, squashed and submerged in a reverb bath. The musical equivalent of boiled cabbage.
 
There needs to be a new word to describe electronic music that's NOT boiled cabbage. Whatever such a new category might be named, I think Neptune's Oceans qualifies for inclusion.
 
Yes, there are some noticeable artifacts in the beginning. I'm not sure what it is, perhaps a click being propagated by reverb. I'd zoom in on it and try to determine what it is, and perhaps automate it out.
 
A suggestion for adding some interest: keep the percussion but inject some unexpected percussive ear candy here and there. Something either very deep (e.g. orchestral bass drum) or bright (e.g. triangles, finger cymbals). Tablas or bongos might go well with the sitar theme. Whatever you stick in, make it brief and unexpected and panned out of center, in contrast with the steady rhythm that's already there.

@bitflipper - Thanks for listening Dave, against your initial instincts.  And thanks for your kind comments and suggestions about the music.  I agree.

Thanks for taking the time to listen timidi, and for your kind comments.  It's true that ambient music is not for everyone.  In fact the point of it is to "meander" and allow the listener to daydream, rather than be focused in on the music.
 
As for the sitar, it actually started out in early incarnations of the song as a saxophone part, but I decided I wanted something more exotic sounding to be in keeping with the sort of "mysterious" and "exotic" vibe I was going for (i.e. exploring the liquid diamond oceans deep inside the planet Neptune).  It's admittedly a little edgy and definitely not supposed to sound like pop music.  All that being said, a few different people have mentioned the sitar (negatively), so now I'm wondering if there's an actual problem with the sound, for a sitar.  I'm not hearing a problem here, but maybe it sounds different on your speakers, or maybe I'm just deaf too. :)  Is it that you don't like the choice of sitar in the song, or that there's something wrong with this particular sitar sound (or perhaps my post production)?

Great work! The stereo image is perfect...sounds really good here.

I think the mix here is pretty good. The theme is fairly constant.No sudden departures,breaks or tempo changes. The sounds are fairly consistent . If I were to put this In a nut shell I would say it is predictably consistent. Nothing happens that I'm not trained to expect. Still, what it is is good .

At the beginning The first three chords are similar to the song from the Matrix, only a slower tempo.That last chord is a diminished or something different. The ascending chord idea is similar. I'm sure you didn't plan the similarity. If you're just getting the feel of synths, this is a good start. One thing you did that is a departure from a norm is that you used the sitar in a way I'm unaccustomed to hearing it. You made it sound more western to my ears.

Consistent and also good ;) There are so many of these kinds of tunes out there that I was simply saying that in order to grab the attention of some listeners anything that breaks an expectation might add interest. I hope I didn't offend you. Our western ears hear movie sound tracks all the time and synth background music. Some synth patches can scare the piss out of the listener, or at least make them listen a little closer. If you were to add some heavy drums and bass about one or two measures in that would notch it up a bit,maybe add a solo synth in there or a guitar. This is all JMO and since I didn't make it or know what you were thinking I have no way to know what you objective was. If you set out to make something relaxing and meditative this is it. If you wanted to make it fly a little there are things you could do.

Walt, it's nice and full and balanced to my ears.  The tune is different and I like it. 

I liked it especially when the the beat starts at 0:29 and the sitar starts to dissolve, I enjoyed listening to it.
