Cakewalk FX MIDI Tool ~ Sonar X2 Producer

Presently I am using this Cakewalk FX MIDI tool to 'randomize' MIDI notes I entered via the 'Staff Menu'.  I right click on a selection and there are two options: 'Insert Effect' and 'Process Effect'.

I can use the 'Process Effect' and everything is good. After making my settings I click 'Ok' and that's it. Looking through the PRV the MIDI events are 'randomised'.

Regarding the 'Insert Effect' option, I understand this to mean that this would be added to the MIDI FX bin and that adjustments could be made in real time. When I select this option, I make my settings and then .... nothing! So I then go to the MIDI FX bin and try adding the FX MIDI tool there. I make my settings and ... still nothing. No changes shown in the PRV.

I'm obviously missing or not understanding something here. If inserting the FX does not mean changes in real time, can anyone advise what this does and how to apply.

Thanks.

It does'nt change the notes on the fly in the piano roll, but you should here the results when playing.
