How can I separate original signal and fx left and right?

On an audio track, using a send to an FX bus, I want an instrument's dry sound on the left and either it's delay or reverb effect (and only it's effect) on the right. How can I do that? I guess I have the send pan, FX pan or some FX control, and the effect bus pan available but I'm not sure of a common way to do this.

Thanks much,
Sam

I would use a pre fader send from the original track to a bus with the reverb or delay on it and the interleave on the bus set to mono. Pan original track to one side and bus to the other.  There may be other options I'm not aware of and I'd be happy to hear them. HTH
