Cakewalk MP3 encoder and X3

Are you guys using the optional ($19) MP3 direct export?
Is it functional with X3?

Supposedly there should be a 30-day trial, but do I need to install anything first to get this to work?

As an alternative, consider getting NCH software Switch Plus for 10 bucks more.
It's one extra step but it converts basically any audio format to any other, it's quick and simple, and it's not fixed to Cakewalk.

Use the free Lame encoder and configure it in Sonar.  Here's some instructions on how to do this:-

Hi. This sounds pretty cool! Do I really need an original installation CD. My Sonar versions were always just digital distributions. Can't I just type all that info?

Thanks again, guys.

I managed to get the LAME Encoder to work without the CD. I had to try 3 times, though.

So for the record (in case someone else gives this a try): make sure you select "SoundCloud - WAV" in the External Audio Encoder Setup before you click the "NEW" button and then type the settings from the screen shots (1st time I didn't care about the setting and it used FLAC, 2nd time I used MP3 and it asked me to purchase a Cakewalk MP3 Encoder upon export).

Now it works really sweet i.e. it exports and keeps the WAV file and then converts it to MP3 in one go for all mix stems

I can't seem to get it working.  I can export to WAV or FLAC but mp3 gives an error:
"Warning: The External Encoder returned an error code.  The File may not have encoded properly."
It (Lame) is in the proper spot:   lame -b 192 -m j %I %O    settings.

If I export a wav from SONAR then run the lame in command line on the wav it works...just not working 'automatically' thru sonar.

Is the $19 encoder from Fraunhofer?

I thought that:
- the $19 is a license fee for the Fraunhofer encoder
- it is built into every version of Sonar and is just unlocked by the SN
- it has always just worked fine for me

Hm.  I got one free with X1 LE, and it says that it's based on LAME.  I'm wondering if the $19 deal would be a step up....

If you bought the encoder, notice the at the bottom of the MP3 Encoder Options dialog: "Lame Encoder Version 3.97"

Hi! I had exactly the same error message when I tried first time. Make sure you follow what I wrote in the earlier post and use identical settings you see on the screen shot.

Double check Lame is in the 'Path' address (see screenshot above). It doesn't matter where it is as long as that path address is to where you put it.

That worked!  That's the critical step - to get it to put the WAV by selecting the Soundcloud - WAVE first before you hit 'new', otherwise it gets set to 'flac' or 'mp3' and you get the error!   Working great thanks a bunch FreeFlyBertl

Yes. You may need to contact CW support for the unlock tool. I believe the MP3 license was only sold at the CW store, so there should be a record of it in your store account. Or if you had a product older than SONAR, there might be a license associated with the product. Mine came with ProAudio 9. IIRC, the X1 install did not ask for the ProAudio9 CD to unlock the encoder. I had to contact support to get the unlock utility.

Hi Tom...

I've been using the same... Can you please remind me of the procedure for enabling it in X3 or does it simply work out of the box if already installed in a co-existing Sonar version?

I don't have X3 yet, but it's on my gotta do list! ;-)

Thanks to the info in this thread, I was able to finally get the LAME encoder working with X3e.

Along the way though, I managed to trash the Soundcloud - FLAC entry.  If someone would be so kind as to copy the info in a post here so I can recreate the original, I would really appreciate it.  No rush.

thanks

The BEST .wav to .mp3 encoder I have EVER USED as far as quality and file size is by XILISOFT and here is a link to thte free software on my server. The only limit until you buy it is you can only do one track at a time for conversion...

This XRIPPER GOLD software also comes with a CD RIPPER, a DVD RIPPER and a DVD AUDIO RIPPER all which are excellent and can be used without purchasing to a limited extent but the .mp3 converter is excellent and you can do as many tracks as you like just not a batch.

HINT!: FOR THE BEST QUALITY/SMALLEST FILE SIZE IN THE .MP3 CONVERTER CHOOSE THE LAME .MP3 CONVERTER AND IN SETTINGS SET KBS TO 128KBS QUALITY TO 0 (VERY HIGH) AND BITRATE TO 44.1 THIS GIVES YOU A STREAMABLE CD-QUALITY .MP3 FILE (THE BEST!)

ENJOY!

Just in case you didn't see it, post #3 up above shows you how to get the LAME encoder inside Sonar.

I believe an advantage of doing things this way is that you get to use the last version of the encoder.
