[Answered] Installed X3 ...Now no ASIO drivers!
Since I installed x3 and the update X3b my ASIO drivers aren't available anymore. I have a MOTO 896mk3. This may not be an issue caused by X3 but I've just noticed it. So, I have to use the MME or (MOTU Audio Wave) drivers and it's going insane. The phones works sometimes, then it stops all together. In the Control Panel... also not available no asio drivers to choose from. So, I haven't a clue. However, I'd noticed something in the x3b update regarding some driver issues so I was looking forward to installing the update but to no avail. Have I missed something? The only thing I can think of to try is uninstall X3 and see if X2 works. Just not sure why my system doesn't see the asio drivers either.

Not sure, how do I install as admin? I just clicked on the install file. I don't think I rebooted. Although I have rebooted it several times when the issue arose. I suppose I'll uninstall it..re install it.

Right click on the inst, all or run icon for any plugins or drivers you install and select always run as admin..
Another thing to check is to make sure that windows is not using your sound card. Windows can't use ASIO drivers and will always switch back to WDM or MME.

Have you tried turning off the motu unit and then physically unplugging and replugging the USB/Firewire back to the computer? I've had my MOTU get into a permanently hosed state once that was only solved by a full reset like that. I have X3 and a MOTU and its working fine. Also check if the drivers are available in X2 or any other program under ASIO. As a last resort uninstall and reinstall the MOTU drivers.

I'm guessing our man, Noel, is on track... SONAR's not seeing the drivers because Windows hasn't loaded them due to a problem with hardware connectivity/firmware/driver state. Without digging into the Windows Device Mangler, you can double-check this by firing up a standalone synth like Dim Pro or TruePianos, and seeing if ASIO drivers are available there. You'll also want to open the MOTU Audio Console (if there is one for USB interfaces...?), and make sure it's happy and I/O channels are enabled as expected.

I ran the install as admin. It didn't work. I'll take a look at a stand alone program and see if the asio driver is available. MOTO suggested that if by chance it doesn't...repair the drivers through the Windows control panel. I'll take these steps and get back.

+1 to Noel You can "force" Windows to "re-assess itself" by simply unplugging the USB and plugging it back in. It seems Windows may have taken them for itself. I (admittedly) do something I should not... in that I run both the onboard audio and Ozone at the same time regularly... in order to not give Windows a seizure, I went to "Change Sound Card Settings" and assigned "default" to the onboard audio... then when the Ozone is turned on, Windows leaves it be, and SONAR gets full access to the ASIO on it without issues. This interface is a MOTU 896mk3. It's FIREWIRE! OK, I've checked several stand alone synths, ie FM8, Rapture, and all of them have ASIO drivers enabled and functioning. I then opened an instance of Sonar X2. Then it told me that I have ASIO drivers to replace others and it worked. All ASIO drivers appeared in the list and it functioned properly. When I load an instance of X3...No ASIO drivers! i could try a repair. Not sure if that's going to do anything. Seems to me like there is an issue with X3 not seeing the drivers but I don't know. I'm going to do it anyway as it's really the only thing I can try. So, how is it that X2 sees the drivers without issue but X3 doesn't? I can do a bunch of uninstalls and the such. But, again. I've run everything as administrator on the new install, rebooted it and whatever else I can think of to do. I'm just puzzled that mine doesn't work but everyone elses does. What system requirements would I possibly be missing on this system that would prohibit me from using my interface? Hmm, very puzzled.

LOL, there are 2 links to pictures of the driver profile for both instances of X2 and X3 just above. Again!!!!! The ASIO drivers (are not available in X3) That means I can't select them! Sonar chooses the best drivers and replaces them. That's what happens when I open a saved project in X3 and open it in X2. When I fire it up, I get a message that says "Hey, you have ASIO Drivers available in X2, we are going to replace the mme or audio wave drivers with these.

From a everything off cold boot I power on Firewire interface then computer. If I don't do that my ASIO drivers get hosed and disappear/reappear. If I do the Firewire after boot or turn off and turn on again system is all jacked up. Doesn't matter how many times I reboot the system will always be jacked. Have you tried that?

One thing that is interesting is that X2 is working when X3 isn't. Audio settings are saved separately between X2 and X3 so resetting the X3 settings could fix up your install. Give this a try and let me know if this helps. 1) Make sure SONAR is fully closed and navigate to your appdata folder (paste &appdata% into your file explorer window to get there) 2) Open the Cakewalk folder 3) Open the X3 Folder 4) Locate the file called "AUD" or "AUD.ini" 5) For safe keeping it's best to save this file somewhere. I recommend simply moving the file to the desktop. 6) With the file now moved out of the folder, Make sure your motu is ON and plugged in and relaunch SONAR X3 SONAR will automatically recreate The AUD.ini file with clean settings.

I'm not finding this. All of the "appdata" or "&appdata%" files located on C: Don't have a Cakewalk folder in them. What should the parent directory look like? I'll continue looking.

So, when I opened X3, it behaved like the first time I opened X3 and did the driver profile thing. And..only showed the MME drivers doing it's thing. http://s265.photobucket.com/user/jackasspenguin/media/2013-10-11_1610.png.html?sort=3&o=0 This is the Driver Settings tab. And there are no options in any drop down menu to select anything other than the mme motu audio driver... which is no surprise, If it doesn't show up in the devices,,,why would it show up in the device settings? I had a thought...If X2 is working properly and seeing the Asio drivers..What file is that? If X2 is finding the asio drivers does it not create that pointer in the App Data for X2? What if I deleted the instructions in X3 app data and replaced it with the app data from X2? Would my computer explode?

Well, I did that. lol I coppied the appdata from the X2 folder into the X3 appdata folder just to see what would happen. Fired up X3 and it just initialized and loaded the MME drivers again and that's it. I guess it just re wrote the file. I don't know. I guess I'm going to try and do another un install and re install....and disable all my anti virus and firewall programs again and see what happens. Not that it's gong to fix it or anything. It just beats doing the dishes.

Just to begin at the beginning... under Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording, do you have ASIO selected as the Driver mode? EDIT: Cross posted, and didn't see see Sergio's post because I have him blocked. The location of the setting has not changed. I kind of wondered about this all along, but couldn't imagine it hadn't already been confirmed. But looking at the screenshots, it seems that setting can't be right.

Can we please, please get beyond whether or not I have selected the ASIO drivers under preferences? This isn't a matter of whether or not I didn't choose to use them. First of all, Sonar is going to use the ASIO drivers whether I select them or not. Again! right now! I'm using X2 in all it's splendor rockin' some ASIO drivers like the dickens. Thankfully I can still mess with Addictive Drums and continue doing something. So,,,,, lets move forward here. So, I uninstalled X3 and disabled every Firewall, every Antivirus, everything that might be interfering with an install that I've seen mentioned or can think of... Installed in as administrator..stood with on one foot with my mouth open..... blah blah blah. Still...NO ASIO DRIVERS! I even opened a project with X1 just for gits and shiggles. Yes! I have ASIO DRIVERS in X1 too. So, at the end of all this..what we know is I have ASIO Drivers in X1 and X2 but Not X3!
