I've done the trial of the J37 and the Kramer master tape. I will pass on these. I guess I don't get it or I'm not smart enough to set these up properly, but they just seem to do nothing or make these worse, depending on the settings. I used to like the warm compression that tape would provide, but I guess I've evolved and prefer my other compressors.

I have Kramer...I like it..but it's a CPU hog... The J37 sounds nice in the right place with the right settings... It's subtle but there...all in all these have to be used in the right places...it's amazing we spend all this money to get back to what we couldn't wait to get away from with the advent of Digital....goes to show that analog warmth says a lot...

Yeah, I think I'm just not using these correctly...For a subtle effect I think the new tape sim in Sonar will work. I do have other tools too. Klanghelm SDRR and Fab Filter Saturn. I'm such a plugin slut! I had to try the J37!

Your plugs will continue working WUP or no WUP. They'll just continue getting older and using outdated driver versions. It is possible that WAVES might force you at some point to upgrade to all new drivers...but that's never happened to me. I've "re-wuped" just once...fwiw.

I don't deal with Waves anymore - not since they ripped me off - OK some years ago now but basically they sold me a product (GTR) that would not work and then they would not fix it until I purchased a WUP - not surprisingly I did not wup and have never updated my Waves products - most still work but some don't. I see people here say they have mended their ways and are now more customer centric - well I sincerely hope they are right, but I still get the feeling that Leopards don't change their spots, so if you ABSOLUTELY have to buy some of their products, you will HAVE TO buy a Wup as well. But if you want Tape Emulation there are any number of great products out there from reputable manufacturers, such as Slate, Uhe, Toneboosters and UAD - personally that's where I would look first Nigel

I guess they all do what they claim. I just can't decide if I like it or not. Hahaha. I have found that when mastering several songs as a group a saturation plug of some kind or other can glue the songs together nicely, but for a simple subtle effect the Pro channel tape sim will do just fine.
