To the smart people here: How do I perform this old, favorite trick that I used in ver. 8.5? When in Piano Roll/Drum Map Mgr view, and I want to transpose a part to a new note location. I USED to be able to simply click on the part name on the far left, and that would automatically capture all notes in the song for THAT part, then, EUREKA! I click on 1 note in that line, and simply drag ALL the notes at once to the location I desire! What could be simpler? Of course, the NEW way! Except, I just can't find it now. So, can someone PLEASE tell this ole fart that doesn't know anything what's the NEW & IMPROVED way of doing this? YES! I'm already familiar with using the Process/Transpose feature, which is definitely slower, and more cumbersome. BTW, please don't RESOLVE this thread, unless it makes it easier for the nice geeks to help each and every problem I run up against.

It works the same way now. Use shift to keep the notes at the same time position. The Smart Tool will turn into a cross when its in the drag mode.

As far as I understand you, John is correct. It still works that way! Just put the smart tool over one of the notes and when the cursor turns into a 4-way arrow, hold the left button down and drag where you want. If you want to keep same time position, hold shift before clicking, then move up or down.

You know... you probably don't want to hear this as someone who has been using the program for a long time but you would likely benefit from just working through the tutorials at the start of the manual. They are written to get people up and running relatively quickly in all the most important areas of the program and seeing as how you already have experience they should be a breeze. They also link to more in depth entries on the topics discussed. I don't think the X3 pdf is out yet or if the online help is fully updated but for stuff like this even checking out the tuts of the X1 and X2 manuals should give you much better idea of how things work in the X series. I mean the forum can help answer your questions but if you have to log in, post then wait for an answer you could have very easily gone through most, if not all, the tutorial entries. Just some, hopefully, helpful advice. The tuts aren't just meant to help get beginners going. They help describe the primary functions of that specific version. They will help alleviate some of the pain of switching from the pre X series.

So, the feature that used to be under Views/Toolbars where I used to be able to take In/Out different toolbars, where it appears NOW to be in the Modules section. I SHOULD be able to move and/or, take In/Out different modules as I please. So, while I frequently use the Punch In/Out feature, I usually use the Selection feature. What would be really cool is if I could take out one of the OTHER current modules that I hardly EVER use, and put in BOTH of the other modules. Heck, if the designers were 1/2 as smart as I think I am, they would let me set up several different screen layouts, and save them for different scenarios. You may have set up such an animal, but I can't find it, and I don't know where to look in the 2100 pg manual. HEP me

I found it! Now, can someone tell me how to PERMANENTLY save that layout to somewhere other than my C: drive.

If you are referring to the Control Bar Modules you can drag them wherever you want in the Control Bar by clicking and dragging on the left edge (where it looks ridged). You can replace modules by right clicking a module you want to remove and selecting the module you want to replace it from the menu. You can also add or remove modules by right clicking in an empty area of the Control Bar and selecting the module you want to remove/add. The new modules may not be added right away because of the order/priority of other modules already selected and the amount of space on the Control bar available so if it doesn't pop up right away just right click and select again and it should replace one of the other modules automatically. Again this is all explained at the start of the manual in the tutorials or shortly thereafter. Seriously it's okay to ask questions but you are going to only going to frustrate yourself and waste your own time by posting about every little change. The tutorials will answer the bulk of basic operating questions and will seriously only take a half hour for someone already familiar with audio and previous versions of Sonar.

You may be able to retain those external with a Project Template. Otherwise you can just use Screensets. I think the Control Bar set up follows screenset setups. Again both topics are covered in the tuts and/or early on in the manual.

Oh and I guess I should mention I'm providing these answers based on X1/2 but I haven't seen any mention of changes to the Control Bar or saving Templates.

For transposing entire ranges, what's wrong with Process > Transpose?? I've got this bound to control + T - Select notes
- Ctrl + T
- Enter desired pitch shift range
- Click Ok

To the original poster: 1. The new UI takes some getting used to. 2. You would almost certainly benefit from reading the documentation, and/or doing the tutorials. At some point, your skipping the investment of time that many other have made into learning about the changes may result in a dropping off on the level of help folks provide you. 3. The frequent 'caps' thing is a bit annoying to many folks who are trying to plow through the bits and pieces of detail when someone posts about an issue. 4. I would suggest you post separate threads for separate issues. It benefits everybody. It makes it far easier for the forum folks to see each issue right away, without having to scroll down a bunch of already resolved issues in the same post, just to see the latest issue. In addition, threads can end up with an entanglement of posts from multiple issues and that makes it much harder to wade through. Lastly, by splitting it out into one issue per thread, folks who are searching the forum for similar issues can find solutions much faster, so please consider posting one issue per thread moving forward. The above are merely suggestions, Bob Bone
