Dan, can you please comment on my post above?
Did what he suggest fix your problem? If not let him know that.

I don't quite understand what he is talking about. the only synth I had was superior drummer and 2 audio tracks. It sounds like he is saying midi drift where I thought it was an audio drift. the synth gain output was at -.9 - is that what he is talking about? and what other volume is there to use?? I am not sure exactly what he is saying.

Conley, I'm not Dan, but unless you are using simple instrument tracks (you're not describing that) then you're using what Dan's calling split tracks. Meaning, it takes two tracks to render a synth, the MIDI source track and the audio return track. Sounds like you have a gain/trim on the audio return track. Set that to 0 and see if the drift goes away. Also, worth noting that just changing the rotary gain knob isn't the only factor in the drift (when observed the synth output actually gets a little earlier on each loop pass, yet the MIDI meter is right where it should be). I have yet to repro the issue from scratch on my desktop machine however. So this isn't just a do A and B happens. More like if A and C on a Thursday with a full moon kinda combo. Keith

Hi Keith, thanks. I was trying to make sure. I have been solid after turning the volume to zero. Now as far as the mixe before we get the fix - We should put the output to it's own bus and then use the bus to adjust the volume, correct? I have looped it for a while and it is pretty solid now. :) looks like a temp fix. Thanks bakers!

I have a project that duplicates the drift if you want to use it as I mentioned before Craig used it to figure ot the groove clip issue. I can PM you the project link if interested.

Guitarmech, thanks to your persistence we have found some trouble and a fix to go along with it. Not only for one issue, but two!! Outstanding work in not letting it go.

Dan was suggesting you use the Master Volume control in the synth's GUI (usually controlled by MIDI CC7 that the Volume Control on the MIDI track generates) to alter input volume to the synth audio track in lieu of Input Gain on the track that is causing the problem. But you should also be fine using Output Volume on the track if you don't need the level to be altered ahead of any FX on the track.

Is this at all related to the midi note dropping during looping ? The metronome kludge also fixes it so it must be related. --> I'd be very interested in hearing how gain can affect sync.

I don't recall ever hearing that having the metronome on had any affect on dropped notes. The two causes I know of dropped MIDI notes are a too-small "Prepare Using" buffer in preferences (try the old default of 500ms instead of 250 introduced with X1), and loop recording with input quantize enabled (a bug). there's also a MIDI buffering issue when looping with MIDI FX in the project, but it doesn't cause dropped notes. Hard to say whether this issue with gain has any bearing on dropped notes; I wouldn't think so, but the surprising linkage with soft synth buffering suggests anything is possible.

More looping playback info. I would prefer a fix and not a workaround.

Just tested this and looping playback still drifts even when the synth output is set to zero. Also, now I am getting crackles and pops on subsequent loop playback iterations. Didn't notice that before.

Hi Dan, thanks for the reply. I am trying to cut down the project file to a transferrable file size which still recreates the issue. So far, only the full project exhibits the sync issue. I will need somewhere to dump it if I can get a smaller project for repro. As far as the synth volume - I have a B4 and EzKeys synth in the project set to -6db and -8db lower than 0. Superior Drummer 2 is set to 0 on the output. If I can get a smaller project size to recreate, or not, I will let you know.

Is that the 32-bit Native Instruments B4? There's a known issue with Bitbridge padding the audio with an empty buffer, causing it to render late. This could manifest while looping. And just to be clear, it was audio track input Gain that was the issue before - not synth Master output volume or track volume.

yep, 32-bit B4 and thanks for the double check on the 'input volume'. I will remove that from the equation and see if it gets better. I could probably just freeze the synth and not even worry about it... I will try that too.
