Migrate X2 configuration to X3?
Hi, I just installed X3 (producer - win7x64) on my new hard-disc. I now want it to use the same settings as in X2, so I copied AUD.INI, INSTRMAP.INI, TTSEQ.INI and Master.ins to the X3 folder. But it seems it didn't get all the settings. According to Google/Help there is a migration dialogue - but it didn't appear in my installation process. Can I trigger/open it manually? How can I else use my old configurations? Thanks and kind regards, glen

> so I copied AUD.INI, INSTRMAP.INI, TTSEQ.INI and Master.ins to the X3 folder Replacing an X3 AUD.INI with a X2 AUD.INI is not a good idea methinks. I would start again with the default X3 AUD.INI and copy these setting across manually in the preferences UI... not sure about the other .INI files.

Thanks for your feedbacks! It's not only the aud.ini. Actually the aud.ini is only a minor problem. The main problem is the Midi-Device-Management (I have loooots of midi devices) and I can't (well, actually don't want to) re-configure them manually. How can I run the migration process manually and tell X3 where to find my X2 settings? Thanks and kind regards, glen

I copied the track / project templates, prochannel presets and plugin manager presets from X2 -> X3. That worked very well. I would think there has to be one location for the midi devices. But I would have to do some digging to find that file. I also agree that copying X3 program specific files is probably not a great idea.

You should just let Sonar handle the migration process. It's always worked perfectly for me

Maybe the migration dialogue box didn't appear because he installed X3 on the new hard disc?

Ah. I sort of read that and skimmed past it. It's too early here. No coffee yet!

There is also tvwidgets.xml, the file that configures the track header widget layout templates. Sonar doesn't carry that one across.

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies! So I guess, we're close to the solution now :) Unfortunately the Sonar-Support still hasn't replied. Let's bring it down to one question: How can I manually start the migration process? Does anyone know this? Most likely copying the ini files will not solve it. Thanks and a happy sunday to everyone! glen

So, Cakewalk replied: With SONAR closed, simply hold both CTRL + SHIFT while opening SONAR- SONAR will proceed to copy over and write some files, and proceed to open! At this point, your previous settings from X2 should manually import into X3, including your MIDI Instrument definitions. It actually works, but mixed everything. Names are different, instruments are mapped wrong. So I guess, I'll make it manually now.
