So how many people have installed Windows update and have this exact problem?
There were some very necessary updates here. I don't think this is a smoking gun so far....

It's a stretch, I admit.

Thanks, Ludvig.

That seems obvious enough.

For step 4 - the AppData contains stuff for earlier versions of Sonar - probably only X3 appdata should be removed.

I can't see that one at all, but I'm sure the next time somebody gets this issue they could test this theory..
I could easily be wrong...

And, indeed it isn't.

I reverted my system to just before the last updatre and the problem has not changed.

I'll have to try an uninstall and re-install next.

I'll let you know. After a strong cup of coffee and a short walk to clear my head, I'll try the uninstall/re-install.

I'll start with X3a, test things, then X3b, repeat, then X3c.

This could take a while, but being retired has it's advantages: I have lots of time.

Yes, only remove the relevant folder. Sorry for that.
Best of luck!

As you found out, Ludvig, so did I. The uninstall and re-install fixed my problem.

(BTW, I only deleted the Sonar X3 Appdata stuff, not the full folder).

Great news Jim!

Thanks for the feedback. Be sure to make a backup of the current working system, with Acronis True Image or something similar.

Now let's make some music!

Best Regards
Ludvig
