I'm not satisfied with the solution of turning off the 64 bit double precision engine.

The 64-bit engine was a much bigger deal back when it was introduced, as not all programs in use had graduated to 32-bit floating point or better. You'll lose very little unless you're doing extremely complex projects (e.g., multiple instantiations of reverbs over multiple tracks where you can hear the reverb tails in isolation at high levels...and even then you might not hear a difference).

I had lots of problems with X3c, including crashing on opening or shortly thereafter.  Much of it was related to plugins, where I had not downloaded the latest software version or had 32bit plugs in the wrong location.  I am not sure why X3b worked better, but the the good news, is that it forced me to straighten out my plugins anyway.
For example, I had Equality eq on my computer, but it was not the latest 64 bit version.  For some reason, X3C really did not like the 32bit version.   The scanning of plugins on startup was slow and often did not complete successfully, mainly because of my UAD software, which had to be updated and relocated.
Also I installed X3c over itself with a new file downloaded from the web, in case there was a flaw in the original download.  And for some reason, that also made it run better!
It all seems painful while in process, because one does not know if the fix will actually happen, but it does.
I am a silver member, so I am not sure all this really happened :)  I better start posting more, so I have more credibility.

Yup, it's the difference between being able to spot a B52 bomber on the moon from earth with your eyes, or the pilot inside that B52 bomber.

Anyway better luck next time :)

The good news: Sonar supports lots of different plug-in formats. The bad news: Sonar supports lots of different plug-in formats

Programs that maintain super-tight control over what plug-ins you can and cannot run have an inherent advantage in terms of stability. However, if you "weed out" certain plug-ins from Sonar, IMHO you get equal or better stability. For example if you use ONLY 64-bit plug-ins with 64-bit Sonar, you'll have the same kind of general stability as 64-bit programs that force you to use only 64-bit plug-ins.

ahem, has the company line changed now, ever since there appears to be a bug (still unresolved?) in Sonar X3's 64-bit dpe, to downplaying the 64-bit dpe?

Having used 2" tape recorders with various forms of dubley, mastering on half inch, and seeing world famous producers use DATs for mastering in the past (yes I know) and recording digital in 16 bit/ 32 bit and 64 bit, using desks held together by thin strands of wire and gaffer tape, I think I reserve the right to a little chuckle, I just don't care in the slightest (disabled it) ... Too many audiophiles working in studios nowadays ;)
