By the way, has anyone tried the "Writer's Block" AD MIDI pak? It seems like an interesting concept and I'm wondering how well it works in practice. 
 


That is one of the new ones I picked up. It is pretty cool and it has helped in creating bridges to other parts of compositions. It has more intros and and bridges. I also picked up the other funk midi pack. I had to get the retro songs for the Motown beats. I used writer's block and it has come in handy.
 
10 bucks a pack makes a great way to expand the midi library. Today is the last day of this sale

Is it possible to load them onto an offline daw ? Looks like your pc has to be online to install them from what I can see.

You got to use the installer and the installer needs internet access. you access your account through the installer. Any software updates are done through the installer too.

I don't think I'll ever use the Sonar step sequencer for drums again (sorry Cake!). It's like everything I wanted Battery to be but wasn't (although I still love Battery as well - the two of them are a good compliment).
 
Noted. I used Sonar step sequencer to today for laughs and after a while had enough. The functionality is crying for a total overhaul.
I've recently bough Maschine and Komplete so I guess I'm going towards the NI route even though I haven't even loaded battery yet or figured out Maschine properly... one big ball of confusion right now, I just haven't had the time to get my head round it (other software to learn first).




Eli Krantzberg has a Battery 4 tutorial on Groove3 which I'm about to watch, no doubt up to his usual excellent standard. I haven't installed my Komplete 9 update yet but I'd like to get up to speed with the new Battery features, it looks pretty good. And I'm pretty sure it would be very easy to drive Battery with Geist if you so desired.

I have been playing with Geist off and on in standalone mode for the past several hours... first test run of it, and it is "rather nice" to say the least... and I have only scratched the surface so far. I am definitely not keen on the browser, but once I pop it off in X3, that will resolve that problem.

I would recommend sticking with the browser - I didn't like it at first but I don't mind it at all now, plus it really easy to set up favorites, save searches and compare files in shortlists. I'm finding it really convenient.

Getting back on original topic,  the reggae demos are pretty good.  I also noticed a few packs are regularly priced at $9.95 (balladsd and sloppy grooves are the ones i have seen so far) for those looking for even more savings.  Not sure about the sloippy grooves since ai can drum badly all by myself, but the ballad ones are not bad

Heavy Rock is also normally priced at 9.95. I picked up the percussion kit and 14 midi packs. that is counting the free ones too. Right now I am working on some Latin grooves. 
 
I need to down load the BFD demo and play with that when I get some free time. The only problem with all these drum programs is I am getting away from recording real drums more and more and relying more on these programs. I still got my percussion instruments. I am tempted to sell some of this stuff off to pay for more drum software.

I think if you actually play the drums, these are strictly supplemental.  The exception being genres that are mostly artificial in nature.  Even those can often benefit from real drumming, even if it's just as a sample source to chop.  As advanced as this software is, it simply cannot duplicate the subtle nuances of a human yet.  These midi paks are great because they are played by a human and essentially provide the best of both worlds. The downside, for lack of better term, with these midi paks is most need other adpaks to truly shine.  The samples in AD are incredible, but it is odd that they chose not to include any percussion except cowbell.

I agree, For me using a drum program is easier and less time consuming then placing mics around my drum set and running everything through external hardware. In addition there is a skill level in some of the midi packs that is superior to my skill level. While I do get ideas for rhythm patterns and I can improve my skill, some of the beats in the midi packs are beyond my abilities. I am a guitar player that plays drums. The software has made everything easier in capturing my ideas. But your right. Nothing can ever replace real drums, at least for now. But drum software like AD has made my music hobby a bit more enjoyable. I dread the day when all of us musicians can be replaced by a computer program. Will it ever happen? Who knows?

i doubt that day comes.  I think that technology will eventually advance to the point where computers are powerful enough to add human elements to computer generated compositions but what they cannot replace is our need for hero worship.  The monarchy in England outlived any practical function hundreds of years ago, yet it is still in place.   It is why cover bands of marginal skill have a following.  Why boy bands continually spring up and why anyone gives a rat's ___ about the Kardashians.  I don't think machines can ever be idols in that Elvis/beattles/Beyonce sorta way.

I'm having trouble finding where on my computer are the actual midi beat AD paks (of which I have bought many) for Addictive Drums 2. I want to to try to open them in a different drum program, but I can't find them - I thought maybe they were in Program Files, or Program Data, but no luck. So it's probably something stupid I'm just missing. Any help would be great! Thanks.

If you want to use the midi files with other drum software you need to do the following:

1. Log-in to your user account at www.xlnaudio.com
2. Go to this page:
http://www.xlnaudio.com/myaccount-myproducts/offline
(note the "offline" part of the URL, making it different than the regular My Products page)
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page where it says External Midi Files
