Some Big Love to my fave DAW
Thanks to the lovely Sonar I won the recent Gary Numan remix competition, and I won Komplete Ultimate 9! Hand Picked by Gary Numan himself!! How cool is that!!!!? During the remix Sonar didnt crash once (no joke - X3c is solid!!) Thanks Bakers for creating an amazing tool that I can express myself naturally and take the sting out of workflow. For anyone interested.....heres my remix that won. https://soundcloud.com/markyzno/love-hurt-bleed-zno-remix plus, to make matters even more lovely, a film that I sound designed purely in Sonar with some help from NI has been long listed for a BAFTA and also the British Animation awards..... Sonar rocks!!! Heres the film.... https://vimeo.com/65597523#at=2Thanks Bakers for creating such a solid bit of software thats serving me so well over all these years.

It's kinda funny, just a couple days ago you were trashing the bakers for their "amateur" attempt at an update. Now your singing their praises? I'm confused. Congratulations, btw.

Thanks guys, I know I moan alot at times but Sonar is by far the greatest bit of software I have ever used.... without it I am artistically buggered. (ffs, have you tried using Pro Tools, talk about a necessary evil!! uggghhhh)
A Massive amount of Kudos to all the Cakewalk team.
You know this year, projects I have been involved with as a sound designer have racked up so many Film Festival awards... and since sound is about 60% of film I can only tip my cap and wink to the platform that makes this happen for me.

Call it passion. (I still dont like X3d, but it will come)... BTW i would NEVER trash Sonar...EVER!!! I was just a bit let down by the update. BUT, having said that I am a loyal Sonar user and want to help them make the best product in the world...God knows how many people I have converted over the years into buying Sonar rather than Cubase (and in the UK nearly everyone is on Cubase or FL or PT)

The irony is I made the Numan remix with Sonar X3c AND Komplete 8 so I feel kinda guilty! But hey ho!

I've heard his vocals played through a Fairlight on "Cars" (E-Reg model) a long long time ago. Hilarious when you SOLO them. Guess it's on the internet now... He's a nice chap, very short... (nothing wrong with short, I'm fat). Congrats!

Way to go ! He was telling me all about this when we had lunch yesterday * (* May not be true) Congrats anyway. Always liked the man myself, mebbe not so much some of the more industrial type music, but a very likeable down to earth guy IMHO. I think he uses Omnisphere a lot too, so surprised Spectrasonics haven't run something like this.

Houndawg Congrats!! Maybe sometime you could elaborate on exactly how you used Sonar to create the remix, and use it for sound design.
The Numan remix was done with the stems Gary Numan made available, I actually only used the vocal stem and a bit of the keyboard stem.... I time stretched the stems to the tempo I wanted to work with, then I used some drums from Heavyocitys Evolve Mutations 2, some ambience created in Reaktor Prism and layed down some guitar parts with my Mustang and the track just evolved from there. Sound Design is a different beast all together.... I got the picture and then the Director (A good friend whom I have worked with for over 12 years) and I created what we call a "box of tricks" where we create a whole host of sound effects, palettes, moods, foley and score bites...this involves using near enough every bit of soft synth arsenal I have and running all kinds of sounds through FX (alot of guitar rig custom built stacks for the most part)... Then we use Sonar to track lay all the sounds, foley and score to picture until we have an audio story that works with the picture....this takes alot of time until we are happy. Then the whole thing gets mastered with Ozone 5 and delivered to the distribution company (In this case it was Ch4 in the UK). Hope that sheds some light!

Yup I do foley work too, mostly recorded with a Zoom H4n with a Rode NTg2 shotgun mic (both of which are a sound designers best friend) Again, Sonar is then my best buddy in track laying and containing all my sounds to lay over the picture..

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.
