Its the same sound. your ears are playing tricks on you or your settings are different that effect sound quality. Its the same audio engine. An update to 'd' will not improve your sound quality!!!

It sounds different to me...I noticed it right away...it sounds great !!, if it sounded worse I'd report that too, but it doesn't. Something changed, I'm not sure what, but it sounds great to me.

That's a placebo effect. Lots of things will impact your hearing, and unfortunately, a great deal of those things don't involve your ears. This is why audiophiles are a particularly cranky bunch. Null tests, and double-blind listening tests will piss off audiophiles to no end because once they get a "feeling" about how something sounds, it's near-impossible to convince them otherwise.

If you really want to be sure that X3D sounds better, roll back to X3C, or open up a mix in X2, then export it. Then export the same exact mix in X3D. Assuming you don't have any randomness going on in your signal path (like random noise in a tape sim for example, or a random modulation plugin), you should end up with identical mixes. To prove it, load both up on separate tracks in Sonar and flip the phase. You should be left with absolute silence. If there's some audio left over, then something is in fact different.

No I'm not going to do a null test...I'm just going to enjoy my new X3d.

I did my test with one basic guitar track, and a second recording of midi piano....both sounded better for some reason.

I just did a null test with an export of a One Direction song from X3c and X3d.

Loaded both into X3, and on hitting the phase button on one track, the song instantly sounded better..  dj is right.

Reminds me of something. My local recording studio is Basing Street Studios, just round the corner. Led Zep, Queen, Live Aid, Sabbath, well EVERYBODY has recorded there. This is where Stairway to Heaven was recorded (and there's a spiral staircase). Bob Marleys Bath is at the top (he used to be on the top floor). Oh and One Direction was recording there as well....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNvLrMwQSJU

So they have closed it down and are turning into flats.
On the plus side One Direction won't be recording there any more..
