Well I'm stumped... Maybe a partition wipe and an OS reinstall then...
Over to others...

Most recent build installed as a result of DriverBooster but no difference between previous build and most recent build.

You might want to check the drivers by going to the manufacturers websites, driverbooster is good, but no substitute for actually visiting the websites for each peripheral manufacturer (it is time consuming of course)... Thanks..

I may have missed this in the thread, so my apologies if I did. Have you tried re-installing the 64 bit X3d patch as administrator, yet? Not an uninstall, but a simple re-install of that patch as administrator? That patch includes SONARPDR.exe, so is a simple test to try (it is possible the original patch did not install correctly).

It may be worth downloading the patch a second time as well, just in case.

Here's a thought, I do have one hdd that is an ide (pata) drive connected to a Jmicron JMB363 controller built-in to the motherboard (an Asus P7P55D Pro).
This is not the os drive, not my project drive nor my sample drive. It's a misc drive.
Could that be an issue?
Should I replace it with a sata drive and disable the Jmicron controller in the bios?

I was checking first to see if anyone has any first hand knowledge before I shut it down, open the case and disconnect it.

If you've updated your video card driver recently...that might be the culprit.  I recently updated mine (Nvidia GTX560ti).  I was rendering a video in Sony Vegas Pro that HAD to be done the next day and it would not render.  Would get half way through and just stop and white screen....in the exact same spot every time.  It was a photo montage, so I thought it might be the particular photo it was locking up on causing the problem.

Come to fine out...it was the nvopencl.dll causing the lockup (I knew this via the error box that came up when Vegas would lock up).  I did a quick search on the dll file and found the answer in the Vegas forum.  I had to disable a certain feature (can't remember it off hand) in the preferences.  The video rendered without a hitch after that.

Since the issue is only happening in the 64Bit version of Sonar X3, could the issue be related to a problem when scanning a 32Bit plugin?

I'll remove the directories of all the vst plugins within Sonar and try without any. If that works, I'll add one directory at a time and see what happens and report back.
Thanks for your input Jim!

Didn't you set scanning to manual and boot Sonar into safe mode earlier on ? :)
That's a good idea anyway :)

Yes I set scanning to manual but I'm not aware how to start Sonar in boot mode, only know how to load projects in safe mode.

Do you have ASIO3ALL installed? Some other people have reported problems with that and X3.

Absolutely not, I'm using a MOTU as an audio interface and I know better than to use ASIO4ALL!!!

It's a Christmas miracle, I solved it!

Apparently it had to do with the Jmicron JMB363 controller built-in to the motherboard (an Asus P7P55D Pro), an ide hdd that I had connected to it and Independence Pro.

The ide hdd was a leftover from my old daw that I had the Independence Pro Majestic Bass library saved to.
I replaced that hdd with an extra sata drive that I had lying around after copying all the contents to it, reset and rescanned and now Sonar X3dx64 is loading in about 20 seconds instead of 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Who ever woulda thunk?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and staying with me through the end.

Glad its mainly sorted. I did suspect it was disk related.
However 20 seconds is still too long, unless you are loading with a custom template or project.
My system drive is only moderately fast and it takes 5-6 seconds to load SONAR X64 at max under Win8.

I'm happy waiting 20 seconds and it's working well so I'm not going to try to trim the loading time.

Do you suggest that I remove/disable vst2 versions of plugs that I have in vst3?

I would leave the VST2 versions in place for now. There are setting in Preferences > File > VST Settings to assist in VST3 migration.

Yes, I'm aware of that, just trying to pare down the number of duplicates that actually exist in my system that I have 32 and 64 bit versions of vst2 and 64 bit version of vst3's.

That raises a different issue, mixing 32bit and 64bit plug-ins. In my case, 64bit SONAR only scans the 64bit plug-ins and a few 32bit plug-ins where no 64bit version exists. 32bit software does not see the 64bit plug-in paths at all.

I have Sonar X3d x64 set to scan both my x86 and x64 vst2 plugin folders because I do use some plugins including free amp sims that are not x64.

Re: Why would Sonar X3d-64 load so much slower than Sonar X3d-32? 2013/12/26 11:23:57 (permalink)
Yes, that is one way to share plugins. I prefer to have the few 32bit plug-ins used by 64bit SONAR in the 64bit Cakewalk VSTplugins directory. If I had more plug-ins shared between 32bit and 64bit installations, they would have a separate directory from either Cakewalk VSTPlugns directories. This would prevent the 64bit scanner from seeing the bulk of the 32bit plug-ins.

Just in case anyone cares, disabling all vst2 plugins that I have vst3 versions of definitely sped up the loading of Sonar and projects.

Down from 2 minutes 30 seconds to 20 seconds and now down to 11 seconds!!!
Accomplished this by doing what scook suggested last.
