Kirk Hunter Solo Strings - Do I need to overclock to use this library?
I'm thinking of getting the Kirk Hunter Spotlight Solo Strings library. According to their website my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements but will "likely experience clicks and pops during realtime playback" as stated here: http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/req.htmlThere's a link on that page that takes you to another website that tests the speed of your CPU. My score was 22. I thought my computer was more than capable to run anything audio, but apparently not. I've never tried overclocking because I don't know much about it. I guess I'm asking has anyone had to overclock their computer in order to use sampled sounds without glitches?

Well I don't think your score can be correct unless your machine is crippled somehow. I scored a 55 and look at how old my computer is (specs below).

I run KH Diamond, Concert Strings 2 and Concert Brass 2 on my system. I agree that KH stuff is very memory intensive, but have never had trouble running it. I do have to use "freeze" to freeze tracks so that I can add several instances of KH stuff, but that is no big deal. My system is a i72600k with 16g which is no where as fast or powerful as your system. You should not have any trouble but I could be wrong (I doubt it)
Why don't you ask Kirk himself. I just sent him an email about a different issue and got a replie the next day. He is a great guy and answers his own emails.

Yeah, I doubt you have anything to worry about. It should technically run great on your computer, and running the demo is a good idea.

bjornpdx - I think folks who listen to the samples and video demo Kirk Hunter provides will find this set of strings very appealing. As cecelius2 says, you can always freeze a track if you find your system can't handle too much thrown at it at one time. I would suspect your system at the bare minimum could handle rendering the tracks and capturing the audio of the strings before you might want to freeze to save CPU processing for other stuff in your songs. Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I'd stay away from overclocking unless I was a crazed gamer trying to get a frame rate I could boast about.

No reason to over clock that system. You can try a working demo of Spotlight Strings. If it's a resource hog, don't buy it. There are plenty of equivalents out there.

Something is way off with that test. It said my 3930k scored 1.8Gflops, which is a total joke. IntelBurnTest gave me 60 just running it real quick, while Qwikmark gave me 203. No one uses Gflops as a requirement standard anyway, and with good reason.
You should be able to run it without a problem, unless it has the worst script coding on the face of the planet or something. Your computer is fine, it's the test that is broken. Someone should tell Kirk not to use it.
