Well, obviously Mike, that is why you have no use for Amplitube Fender, you already have the package of the real thing. Very nice collection! This is the piece of gear that will most likely be with me until I die.

My 1978 Gibson SG that I bought in 1984. Many guitars have come and gone in the last 30 years, because I always found myself going back to my trusty SG.

I've got a lot of great gear but I think two that will stay with me forever is my Black Gibson ES335 and my 70s Echoplex EP3. I actually got to have a phone conversation with Mike Battle, the inventory of the Echoplex, before he died. Everyone tries, but NOTHING captures the magic of that Echoplex! :) I should add my first edition Smallstone Phaser too. I'm signing off now before the list grows...

Hardware would have to be Sm57's and my Sans amp tech 21 bass driver, I wouldn't want to track bass guitar without it and that instrument was my biggest problem to as I was learning the basics. Software.... hmm, Sonar has been awesome but if we need to get more specific... The basic Sonitus comp. has become my standard. I wish I could put it as a module in the prochannel (to that end, I want the sonitus EQ in the PC too) I know we can add them in the chain but it's not the same as having the displays open. And, T-racks at times has been very helpful for a few things.
ADK Built DAW, W7, Sonar Platinum, Studio One Pro,Yamaha HS8's & HS8S Presonus Studio/Live 24.4.2, A few decent mic pre's, lots of mics, 57's,58 betas, Sm7b, LD Condensors, Small condensors, Senn 421's, DI's, Sans Amp, A few guitar amps etc. Guitars : Gib. LP, Epi. Lp, Dillion Tele, Ibanez beater, Ibanez Ergodyne 4 String bass, Mapex Mars series 6 pc. studio kit, cymbals and other sh*t. http://www.everythingiam.net/ http://www.stormroomstudios.com Some of my productions: http://soundcloud.com/stormroomstudios

This one I built.
Very nice too. What intricate soundholes. I built a couple myself way back in the late 70's but nowhere near as nice as this one. I purchased my Walnut Creek dulcimer a couple of years ago and its sounds much better than my home made attempts. Maybe when I retire I may try building one again. I like the idea of both a six-string (three double courses) and a solid bodied electric.

Well, there are two things: the 1959 Martin 015 my Dad left me and the 1980 Takamine I used to gig with. But if I had to choose, the Martin would win hands down. It's the guitar I learned on back in the 60s and 70s. It's also the guitar I played my first high school concert on when I was fifteen. My Dad found it on a mothballed ship in 1962. He was part of the crew going through looking for last minute details that needed attending before the ship was towed off to the scrapyard and he found it lying on a bunk. Someone had stove in the side and left it for dead. My Dad, always on the lookout for a bargain and knowing what a prize he'd found, asked if he could have it and his crew chief said he could. So he took it home, slathered glue on the stove in side and wrenched the broken bit back into place. He played it like that for over 30 years before he finally took it to a luthier and got it fixed properly. In the meantime, it's picked up scratches, scrapes and dents from thousands of campfires, sing-alongs, etc. I even put a few in it myself when I was too young to know any better.

Thanks, James and Glyn. It started out as a Cripple Creek Dulcimers kit. I first heard one at the Colorado Renaissance Fair in '84, where I bought the kit. I "let the wood season" for several years , and finally got up the gumption to build it in '95. My initials and the year are burned into the inside back, where you can see them through the sound holes. The house we lived in at the time had a large pond behind it, so the cattails and heron motif was an ever present inspiration. Threading the scroll saw through all the pilot holes was fun. The headstock was a bit chunky for my taste, so I reshaped it with my drum sander. All in all, it was a really fun project. And I'm pretty happy with how it sounds: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=4593160I'm getting really itchy to get my tools down to Texas and start building stuff again.

That is a very nice-sounding instrument, RobertB. The sound make me think of times long ago and places far away. Having never really listened to one before (or more accurately: I've never really paid attention before) I was surprised that there's a drone string. Are they always played like that or are there other styles as well?

There are two drone strings, a fifth apart. There are different tunings depending on the mode you are playing in. http://www.jcrmusic.com/Learning.html Drones are the traditional way of playing the instrument but people will strum chords or finger pick. The melody string is often a double course to make it stand out from the drones.

I once met a guy up while hiking up in the Virginia highlands that could play most of the Jimi Hendrix repertoire on a mountain dulcimer. It sounded great! He coincidentally played the French Horn down on the coast in National Symphony Orchestra. Fun stuff. :-)

they are a lot of fun to just dork around on - those drones make most of what you play beautiful. :) I would love to hear someone play modern music like Hendrix on one - that would be a trip!
