Newb questions

Greetings,

Used Sonar back in 2001-2003 a bit and just getting back into this so X3 is a bit overwhelming atm.

I have audio (wav files) that I want to mix with drums (addictive). First question: I'm using the step sequencer to create beats but the drum names are all notes. Session drummer has piece names. Am I missing something?

2nd question is after watching a bunch of tutorial videos, it appears most ppl are using a synth to record to an audio file and using that in their mix. I don't get it. Why? Seems like when you "play" or export the final mix it doesn't matter and going through the trouble of creating an audio recording of synth track is one step too many. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

You can change the names of the notes manually.  I recommend savings it as either a project or a track template.

You might just need the drum maps. I downloaded a drum map and it's been working great.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Whether a synth shows names or notes in the Step Sequencer is up to the synth vendor. The Step Sequencer reiies on the vendor implementing the VST 2.1 opcode effGetMidiKeyName. Session Drummer 3 does, Addictive Drums does not. As indicated above, using a drum map is an alternate way of supplying names to the Step Sequencer.

Here are a few of reasons for bouncing a synth track:
    • Once bounced to audio, the synth plug-in can be archived reducing the project CPU and memory load
    • Some patches have a random element, when bounced, the audio is fixed, making it easier to mix
    • Later on (maybe years later), the synth may not be available when opening the project, a bounced audio track will still be usable.

Appreciate the replies. I see now why you'd want to record a synth to an audio clip (bounce).

Also downloaded and followed the cryptic instructions to load the Subjacent drum map for AD but not sure I did it correctly. In PRV and the Step Sequencer I now get a number slash note name instead of a piece name. Like this:
    0/C 0
    1/Db0
    2/D 0
    3/Eb0
    4/E 0
    5/F 0
    6/F# 0

Must have done something wrong? Anyone have clearer instructions for using this drum map?

    Thanks in advance,
