I really have been searching the help files and I go to preferences audio driver settings but I don't see one called options. I assume the playback and recording options would be where I would find the recording and playback buffers. WSS

The File System area in Preferences > Audio > Sync and Caching The "Sync and Caching" selection will only be visible if the Advanced radio button is selected at the bottom of the Preferences dialog.

If your dropouts are during tracking, then your latency is set too high with your ASIO Buffer Size set to 512. Try an ASIO Buffer size of between 220-230 samples - or a setting of 128. This may be a value of 3-4 on a slider. Bob Bone

They occur in playback.
I have tried sending anywhere from 2 up through 9 and still get the dropouts when mixing. WSS

You may have a bunch of look-ahead effects, or other CPU-hungry ones, causing your latency. You may have to jack your ASIO Buffer WAY up. Some folks have theirs set to 128 for tracking, and 1024 for mixing - almost 10x higher. Bob Bone

Westside Steve: You have a StudioCat DAW. I strongly suggest you contact StudioCat: 614-565-8924. Jim Roseberry is very good with DAW support. There seems to be a number of significant troubleshooting things we are writing and you are missing or not understanding. Making a phone call to tech support at StudioCat.com: Purrrfect Audio will be much better and beneficial for you, I think, because you can be sitting at your DAW and tech support can walk you through what to do. Hope that helps.

Yes that's certainly true. Jim has been just great. As a matter of fact we are both in Ohio and I made a road trip to pick up my system. I just assumed this is a matter of settings and drivers and not a problem with the hardware so rather than to bother him I decided to bother you guys. ;)
I plan to follow the advice here and set the recording and playback buffers low and high respectively.
I sincerely appreciate the time you all have spent on what must seem like a newbie problem.

Typo fixed. Now 512 and 128. Apparently changing those settings did the trick. Thanks all. Sorry about being obtuse.

LMAO! Well, that is very good to hear, Westside Steve. Don't be reluctant to contact Purrrfect Audio for tech support, in the future. When you buy a DAW, tech support, typically, extends to software support as well as hardware. And you will get faster efficient results with voice communication.
