[IMPLEMENTED] - [CWBRN-24894] - PRV Controller Pane Disappears
X2 introduced a bug where the PRV Controller Pane would disappear if you diminished it all the way with the mouse. To get it back you have to click on "View - Show/Hide Controller Pane" as mouse dragging doesn't work. Is this still true in X3? Steve

Yes. X1 does not have this bug. I think I submitted a bug report way back when but can't be sure. Just curious if X3 fixed it or not.

It still functions like you described. You can drag it to make it disappear, then need the menu command to get it back. (That's in X3d).

You should be able to redrag it back to appear, so the bug is still there. I guess I'll resubmit a bug report then though someone with X3 may need to do it as well since X2 is no longer supported. Thanks for checking Rob.

Didn't realize it. I always hit Shift+C to get the pane back.

Still in X3e so I filed it (CWBRN-24894). Will come back when the status has been changed. [Steps] 1. Open whatever project that has a midi clip in it. 2. Double-click the clip to open the piano roll view. 3. If the controller pane isn't shown at the bottom of the view, hit Shift+C once to display it. 4. Diminish the controller pane all the way with the mouse. 5. Try getting the pane back using the mouse. [Expected Result] The pane separator is visible at the bottom so that you can drag it and restore the pane.
[Actual Result] The separator disappears and you won't be able to bring back the pane. (If you can't reproduce it, try again with other clips in the project. There are times when it works as expected.)

I believe minimizing the pane to that extreme just causes the pane to be removed in X3. It can be restored with SHIFT-C or selecting "Show/Hide Controller Pane" from the Views menu.

I don't know. I haven't tested it in X1 but if it used to work as Soens said, then maybe this is a bug? (I'm ok with Shift+C, though).

Yes, it is different in X1. In X3, after the pane disappears, the screen is in the correct state (i.e. the accelerator and menus know the pane is gone). If the screen still thought the pane was there, it would definitely be a problem.

Interesting. I wonder why they had to change only the Controller pane's behavior. The Track (List) pane and the Drum Grid pane are both restorable by the mouse as before.

Thanks Jlien. I hope they understand what they've done. I can't believe they would intentionally disable something like this. It was "mousable" for years until X2 and it certainly slows down my work flow having to mess with menus and key strokes. Oh well, it's just a hobby.

Fair question, why not pose the question in the feedback section of the document page? The shortcut may be added.

Feedback submitted. Does anyone have a list of piano roll shortcuts? The only thing I can find on the web is old stuff pre X series.

That is very interesting as my report CWBRN-13937, submitted 1 year and 2 months ago, is still marked "Submitted to Development". Maybe it's buried under a pile of paperwork that got left in the old office when they moved a while ago.

After seeing the status change I sort of regretted not stating in my report that restoring the pane back by dragging the separator was possible in X1 (but surely CW is aware of this, no?) But if you observe the behavior in X2/X3 carefully, you notice that the velocity skyscrapers appear in the Notes pane when the Controller pane sinks down and disappears. This makes me think the change is indeed intended (for what? I don't know). But what I don't understand is, the pane is sometimes restoreable by dragging even in X3. Hmmm......

That's why I don't believe the "intended behavior" conspiracy theory. It's not consistent. Once in a great while it will behave correctly. As for the velocity lines, X1 does the same thing. It is a setting under "Notes".

I've just submitted another ticket asking why the ticket status differs between my ticket and yours. This time I mentioned that X1 didn't have the issue, and also that in X3 the pane is sometimes restorable by dragging the separator that once disappeared.

The status of my first ticket (CWBRN-24894) changed from "As intended" to "Submitted to Development" today. But I have a feeling this trivial bug (sorry soens) won't be fixed............at least until when some major change is introduced to the PRV.
