Driver Reset to 44.1... cannot change. Please advise

Greetings, all.

Sweetwater creation station running Pro 7. Still on XP. Interface is a Focusrite Saffire 26 I/o. Is a designated studio only computer. Only has Sonar Pro 7, Sound Forge, Windows Media, SOund Max on it (minus plug ins, etc.)

Here is the is the issue.

I record primarily at 48k. I went to open a project, with no changes having been made, and I now get a window saying that the driver has been reset to 44.1.  When I attempt to run the little soundcard dealie that test all of the different settings, no matter what I TELL SOnar I want it to run on (48k in this case), it says "OK" at 44.1 and will not let me change it.  It has, obviously, complete crippled my project.  It will play audio, but only at 44.1 which of course makes my guitar sound like it is made of rubber bands and my voice sound like Leonard Cohen. Which, at times could be a good thing, but not right now.

WHAT GIVES?  Obviously, some default somewhere is overriding my wishes ("I'm sorry Dave.... I can't do that" comes to mind...)
I've tried all of the simple stuff- rebooting, turning off the interface, etc..... I've had this computer for a long time (longer than I should, prolly) but it has been rock solid and I've never encountered anything like this.

Any help would be SO appreciated.  Thanks, and have a great day.

I don't know what your problem is, but here's how I'd go about troubleshooting...

Try starting a new project and setting the rate to 48 before doing anything else. Open the MixControl application and verify that the rate is 48. Close SONAR, and then set the rate to 44.1 via MixControl. Re-open the project and watch the MixControl sample rate display to make sure it switches.

The idea is to see if the problem is a) the interface driver not thinking it can do 48kHz, b) the driver ignoring SONAR's command to switch the rate, or c) SONAR not telling the driver what rate to use.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
