Can't open any projects/create new projects in X1. Faderport?

Hello,

I am having a problem opening any projects with X1d. I can't even open a brand new project. I have tried safe mode and skipping all the plug -ins but I just get the spinning cursor that does nothing till I force it to quit via task manager. I have restarted my computer several times.

I think it has something to do with the PreSonus FaderPort. It has been very unstable. I went through the whole registering the dll file with the info I found on this forum, but it worked like 50% of the time, once I got sonar to recognize it. At first I thought it was not playing nice with other midi devices hooked up while starting sonar, but at times it did work with them on.
When I start sonar the faderport will have the Rec and Output buttons flashing really fast and it will just stay like that, with sonar not responding, until I go to task manager and force sonar to quit. I have to disconnect the faderport to get the lights to stop.

For some reason it worked for a while when I had the windows firewall turned off so I assumed it was that, but today its not working at all. I talked with presonus and they think it is sonar related. It works in studio one which I downloaded to troubleshoot all this.
I am at a loss. . . right now I just want to be able to open my sonar projects. .  Does anyone have any ideas? I don't see how the faderport could render sonar useless like this.

I have an Intel Core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60ghz. 16gb of ram. Windows 7 64 bit.

I hope you guys can help me out!

Try starting SONAR with the FaderPort unplugged. There also might be a dialog box behind SONAR waiting for a reply.

    Hi,

I have been attempting to start sonar without the faderport connected and it won't let me open any projects.
I've tried resetting all the vst settings too, thinking something was weird with the faderport dll in the shared surfaces folder.

You could try re-personalizing SONAR by holding the CTRL and SHIFT keys while starting up SONAR. This will cause the ini files to revert to factory settings and reset some of the SONAR settings in the registry.

Will this erase anything? Hotkeys and audio interface settings and such?

It is going to initialize the AUD.ini, Cakewalk.ini and TTSSEQ.ini files. You could make backup copies of those files. You could make a copy of your entire user directory. Not sure about hotkeys, export them to be safe. Should you choose to run a full re-personalization, let SONAR start up and load a project before adding back all the customizations.

Okie so I searched for those and I only come up with 4 files. I thought there would be more of them. . there are only 4? I just want to make sure I get them all. I can't find them without searching for them on my C drive.
    I exported the hotkeys.

I just tried the re-personalizing Sonar and still can't open any projects.

Would reinstalling sonar help fix this. . . ?

Reinstall is always an option although we do not know the cause of the problem so I cannot answer your question.
Should you elect to perform a clean reinstall here are instructions http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2258353

Have you removed all Control Surfaces in Preferences/MIDI/Control surfaces?
    Also uncheck everything is Preferences/MIDI/Devices.

If still no luck, uncheck everything in Preferences/Audio/Devices. And may be in the Preferences/Audio/Playback and recording change "Driver Mode" to WDM and unset "Share Drivers" and "Use multiprocessing".

But doing that (easy revertible) changes you reduce Sonar communication with the System to minimum. And so you can check either it is really Sonar(VST, etc) issue or something wrong with one of the drivers.

You can also remove "Scan For VST on startup" in the Preferences/File/VST Settings. I had some glitches with that in Platinum during project loading.

BTW "self advert" for the time you fix the problem:  http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3209687
