Nectar 2 Versus Nectar Elements versus Half Price sale on N-2

I am close to coming to the end of my Nectar 2 10 day free trial.  I really can't justify the price tag on its purchase  and have looked for a suitable "out of date"  replacement.  I found Nectar Elements for $79.99 on Amazon.  After downloading and (before purchasing it) quickly assessing it as a free trial  I find it is somewhat less feature rich than Nectar 2  If anyone can offer guidance as to how much those added features are valued I would appreciate the input.  I also wonder if we can expect Nectar 2 etc.  to be offered on a half-price special soon?

I have no idea about the possibility of a sale although I can say that Izotope has been going one by one through their catalog with a sale on each product.  Nectar has not come up for sale yet.

However, if you're patient, then Nectar Elements goes on sale *very* frequently.  I wouldn't purchase it for $80 unless you absolutely needed it.

Oh wait...well, here is Nectar Elements at Time & Space for only $33!  They are a reliable seller. I've bought frequently from them.

You could then use it to upgrade when you catch a sale on Nectar 2. ;-)

I got Nectar Elements and Peavey Revalver HPSE free from XLN with Addictive Drums V1. They also gave me Addictive Keys when I upgraded to X3 because I was already a registered user of AD. Have you checked your AD account?

I also picked up Nectar elements from my XLN account, and then I upgraded to Nectar 2 for a very good price. If you are using X3e you should get elements for free. Check your XLN account.

Bluzdog ...  Ampfixer  I have Sonar Producer X3e but to my knowledge  I don't had an XLN account.  Unti a minute ago I had never been to their web site.  Is an XLN account automatically established with a Cakewalk Sonar account?

Addictive Drums is bundled with X3 Producer. The product requires creating an XLN account, downloading their installer and using the XLN installer to install Addictive Drums. If you purchased the download version of SONAR there should be a file 05_XLN_Audio_Addictive_Drums_Download_Instructions.rtf containing the instructions in your store account along with the rest of the X3 files. I would image the DVD version includes the instructions too. since the original release of X3, XLN released a new version of Addictive Drums. Depending on when you bought X3 you may be entitled to Addictive Drums 2. You may need to contact XLN support to find out.

I've been waiting to upgrade my Nectar Elements (which I obtained very cheaply) to Nectar 2 nearly 1/2 a year now. There have been some deals I've seen but only for Nectar Production Suite which is beyond what I need. The best price I can find is $129. I actually was going to purchase this tomorrow but now I'll wait and see if anyone has a better idea / price.

Many companies have year end sales starting near the of November through December (some go through January). Often the best prices are offered during that time.

Sorry to hear about the hip RobbyK.  I bought new ones and had them installed  one in 1999 and the other in 2010.  I must say to anyone who may be hesitant to have a hip replaced ... what a great and wonderful relief!!!  Is the $129 nprice tag an upgrade price? From what little I've learned that's not too bad if it's for the production package with the other goodies thrown in.

Scook ...  I haven't progressed to the point in Sonar to have had much of a chance to make and work with instrumentation tracks so I didn't download Addictive Drums.  From what you've taught me, I will soon do that and create an XLN account etc. as well.  Thanks for the great tip!

By the way here's some simple trivia... When I was little I couldn't say my sister's name "Susan".  Instead, I called her "SCOOKS"!!  Do you think of your signature being pronounced as S. Cook or as Skooke?  ,

Mine is just shattered, no surgery but no walking for 3- 5 months!

The upgrade price for the Nectar Production Suite is more than $129, I just received a quote for $179.00 for that package.

I downloaded Addictive Drums.  Is it supposed to integrate seamlessly with X3 Producer?  I can't locate it anywhere in  X3's Audio FX listings (that include Sonitus,  z3ta+ etc).    As to getting Nectar (Elements??) I've jotted off a support request to see if I can find out how it made available.  Meanwhile any clues are appreciated.

It will automatically show up if the dll was installed in SONAR's VST scan path and automatic scanning is enabled. Most plug-ins do not automatically install in SONAR's default VST directory. Typically, installers provide a way to specify where to install the VST dll. The scan path is maintained in Preferences > File > VST Settings. If the path is not in SONAR preferences either copy the plug-in into the existing scan path or add the path to preferences.

Look in the tabs on the upper left of Sonar and click insert. Choose soft synth, VST2 and see if Addictive drums 2 shows up.

Who is it in this forum that suggests something special about the expression D'oh?  It may apply here!  I found XLN's "drums" and "keys" under the pull-down menu called (of all things) "INSTRUMENTS"!

Cool! Now setup your account at xlnaudio and you'll have a free Nectar Elements link.
They also have a couple of bundles of presets for it free at Izotope.

Hi Conrad, after you login to your account, there is a link at the top that reads "My Account." When you click on that, the page that comes up will have products you own. At the very bottom should be a section of "Third Party Products" including Peavey Revalver HPSE and iZotope Nectar Elements.

For some reason I thought you had X3 Studio; but if you have Producer and do not see these listed, I suggest sending an email to XLN audio and ask about these.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

cpkoch - just a couple comments about value. And I agree that if you wait long enough a sale of some sort can come along.

I often use a four step approach to charm my vocal tracks.

1. Record vocal tracks in Sonar X3 Producer, loop record, capture multiple take lanes
2. Speed comp in Sonar X3, get the right and best phrase takes from the take lanes
3. Clean up the comped track in Melodyne
4. Add all kinds of touches in Nectar 2, that includes cloning the track and making harmony track(s) etc.

After those steps, without much effort involved at all, you can have a pretty amazing vocal track.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

The phrase Third Party Products is not there as far as I can tell!  I use Chrome as a Browser but tried looking for it on Firefox ... same conclusion!

By the way, I bought Producer  in May 2014 and am quite happy I did!  Anyway, I have inquiries into XLN's support organization as well as having left a message on their Facebook page.  I've also emailed iZotope asking how to get the free package.

As an aside if you have compared Nectar Elements with Nectar 2 I would welcome your take on each.  If I can get Elements free I can probably rationalize buying the Nectar 2 Upgrade! The little bit I've used it makes me think it's a pretty powerful  tool for vocalists/

For Addictive Drums, there was a nice post made by Subjacent last year which includes track templates and drum maps. If you begin to use AD to any significant level, the content of that post will come in handy.

Nectar Elements unto itself is a fairly powerful plug-in. With the extras included with X3 Producer, the "gap" to Nectar 2, can be closed with an effects chain for the most part. Nectar 2 (Standard Edition) has more internal effects, which makes it a "one stop shop" in a way for a vocal track. Over time I have tweaked this enough to have saved presets based on the mic I am using that makes it a quick start point for mixing.

The extras that are included with "Nectar 2 (Production Suite)," namely the "breath control" and "pitch editor," I do not use nor find useful. Melodyne is easier to use and more capable than the pitch editor, and the breath control didn't seem to have much usefulness to me.

For the work you are doing, I would recommend following up with Nectar Elements and potentially upgrading to Nectar 2 (Standard Edition) from there. The sales that run around Christmas are usually pretty extensive, and the cheapest upgrade price is sometimes through third party retailers (online) rather than iZotope's website itself. Cclarry often has timely posts in the software forums on software deals as they arise.

I really appreciate you sharing the tips.  I am fairly new to doing this kind of thing and haven't yet arrived at a modus-operendi  for developing good sounding tracks.  I need to lean more  about your first two steps. I may or may not be using "Speed Comp" techniques but I have found that using the best of multiple take lanes is useful. I'm also finding cloning and use of the nudge feature on a single vocal tends to make it more appealing. I've just recently learned about Nectar 2 and find it  exceptional and easy to use.  Now if I can just find out how to get the free Nextar Elements my plan will be to upgrade to Netar 2.
